Did it point out that NHS spending on non residents healthcare is less than half of one percent of the total budget ?

They recon they will only claw back about half a million a year by doing this which is nowhere near half a percent of the total budget

The money supposedly "stolen" by "health tourists" is a side show considering the massive staff and financial gaps.

There is a much bigger picture and much larger problems within the NHS

Completely this!

Unfortunately, the NHS just isn't run efficiently. I say this as someone who works in it. We have a tiny percentage of overseas patients and this is in London.

It's a bit late at night to be getting into my thoughts on the ethics and morals of health provision, but to summarise I don't believe it should be as cut and dried 'pay up / pay in or we won't help you'

I have a feeling Shag that your thread might end up in the politics forum, which is a shame because the programme has been great. Sad, but great TV.

It's a good distraction technique from the real problem though isn't it. The govt aren't daft.

If someone has been in this country 6 months they become resident and entitled to free healthcare. If you are British and paid all your taxes here etc but move abroad for 6 months you loose your entitlement to nhs care.

I have worked in hospitals for 8 years and only come across one person who had to pay and that was an ex pat. I think it must only really be a problem in the London hospitals, maybe a couple of the biggest cities.
