Mohammed or Adam

Anyone watched the programme? For those that didnt - two candidates Mohammed and Adam with similar experience and qualification on their CVs applied for 100 jobs to see who would get most replies / success from the jobs they applied for. The results was that Adam got 3 times more replies than Mohammed. This is because employers were less likely to employ people with muslim sounding names.

I wonder if similar things happens on here where people are put off asians?

tonight i'm meeting an asian guy, well he's english really but idk if i'm being racist now but he's not white english?

i won't show his veri coz when i do i get load of asian guys asking if i like asians...like that's their selling point? puts me off when people do that.

This one has come up quite a bit recently.

I think it does happen, I think many people are racist at an institutional level, but most are good people and are horrified to be made to acknowledge that about themselves, so will argue til they are blue in the face that this kind of behaviour isn't racist.

I saw the short news piece this morning. Similar experiments have been done (women and other ethnicities) and had similar results.

No, Shag; that is racism and is against the law

Preferences are when people make choices in their private lives. Businesses and the State are not afforded that right and nor should this be permitted

What would it be like if you did this experiment in Asia though? Pretty similar results I would imagine.

I wouldn't be put off by a foreign sounding name, or Asian name, I would pick the one most suited to me,

I didn't see the program and I am going to assume it was made in this country,

If it was made for a Asian or any other country the results would be probably be in favor of the more native sounding name
