Its World Book day early March and the mums are all talking about their idea's for their wonderful creations..

Well muppet here is really shit and i normally wimp out and buy a costume from ebay etc.. but this year ive caved in and decided to make an attempted at a handmade costume! I doubt it will be a success

I remember my mum making some wonderful outfits for the WW evacuee thing i did at primary school..

Are you creative? Did you make costumes for your children? Did your parents make any for you?

I buy mine off amazon because i can't sew!

But i did make a space rocket for my youngest's (he's 4) nursery project and he still plays with it now *feels proud*

I made my lil one a calculator costume for number day and i felt pretty proud about that.

Just feel like its the 'mumsy' thing to do,, make stuff and get involved.

Though i draw the line at bake sales haha

I usually out something together myself. I can't see etc but I manage to put an outfit together and they always look cool.

My favourite was Mrs Twit. Found clothes similar, walking stick, false nose, drew on wart and such and made her hair crazy with a name badge.

H was a turkey in a Christmas play at her infants school. They made the costume n she had to stand in a pot turn around n say gobble gobble. She was a total legend.

In answer to your question op. Buy one it's easier sod the "perfect parents". Xxx

well i had a shopping trip to hobbycraft earlier so bought materials,, just need to make something

Yeah I'm pretty creative. My mum was amazing at costumes though. She hand sewed red, white and blue sequence onto a cowboy shirt when l was young. I won an award for it.

All of mine are homemade last minute.com with whatever we have in the dressing up box/our wardrobes...normally because we've forgotten. The kids don't mind...they actually enjoy getting creative with what we can find, and I don't have a clue what the other parents think. I have a life outside school dress up days.

I dread dress up day, competitive mums at their worst.

I'm lucky that I can normally cobble something together from friends who have older kids, the costume / ideas get passed down the line.

Don't get me wrong guys, I'm not a perfect parent who puts weeks of thought into it! It's usually a few days before when they remind me that I throw together something really quickly. I'm just lucky that it works out for me ha ha.

when my son was at primary school I made all his costumes, but I am a bit of a whizz on the sewing machine ..

the one I made him when he was in year 5 won the best outfit in the whole school..

you can make practically anything out of a binbag, a cardboard box and some string

I think I was an Elizabethan once and the Shakespeare type collar was made out of a folded up cereal box.

Always made ours and won a few times sometimes with the simplest ideas. Get your child to help as that goes down well.

Where's Wally is pretty easy and Maleficent if you make the head gear using papermache and chicken wire for the two horns. I always really enjoyed making fancy dress costumes and Easter bonnets.

I remember my mom doing incy wincy spider which was me in a black leotard and black leggings and massive black fluffy spiders legs attached all the way around my waist, can't really remember what she used to make the spiders legs but they were huge, must have pissed everyone off that day from constantly whacking them

On book day my son went in his football kit and said he was Bobby Moore and my daughter went I need her cricket kit and said she was David Gower.

They both hated dressing up.

My mum did make a few amazing costumes when we were younger as we used to have an annual summer carnival in our village . She once sewed two checked sheets together made fake food and stuck this plus paper plates and cups to front blanket (so she could wear like a poncho) then wore sole hear ears - hey presto teddy bears picnic

I try to make my own but as a working Mum I don't always have a lot of time, unlike a lot of other Mums at the school who are ladies of leisure.

They may not look the best in the school either but at least they are original.

Depending how old your children are, I did 101 Dalmatians, that was a doddle.

Our youngest when in primary school chose to go as 'The boy in a dress' from the David Williams creation.. Give him his due he walked all the way to school in a dress, football socks x trainers just like the character in the book.. Hilarious but dead proud he stuck the jibes all day long..

I made a pied piper outfit,with shoes and hat for my daughter.

A TeenWolf outfit for my son for Halloween.

I probably made more but my memory is poor today.

I made a skirt and top out of some leftover costume material, it was lovely.

I've sewn thousands of sequins on costumes with little beads. The joys of being a dance mum.

oh wow really impressed with all the effort you guys went too.

im going to attempt a tutu style dress and make a head piece. my daughter loves twilight sparkle from My Little Pony.. so its based on that
