Was chatting to some mates at work and somehow the conversation descended onto this subject. And oddly one lad made a strange comment. Apparently loads of swingers have genital warts ?

I found it amusing as ive not noticed any yet

I'd say the chances were higher, assuming the average swinger is more promiscuous than the non swinger.

Anyone who doesn't wear a condom is at just as much risk as anyone else, the amount of people that sleep around that aren't swingers is probably just as high!!

One of my mates works in sexual health and apparently 80% of us have the virus for genital warts. Much like the cold sore virus they are contagious when visible. I don't think its limited to swingers though, I'd guess it covers all sexually active people.

I'd guess that a lot of swingers are more aware of sexual health risks than none swingers and it seems that many on here get tested regularly.

Having said that... I've seen a fair few profile photos with genital warts on over the years. People obviously not realising what they are.

Exactly - and someone can be given the all clear at the clinic, thinking they've never had an infection, but have the virus for genital warts. It's really widespread everywhere

How do they spread? Genital warts can be spread during vaginal or anal sex, and by sharing sex toys. But you don't need to have penetrative sex to pass the infection on because HPV is spread by skin-to-skin contact.

Read more about the causes of genital warts.

It can take months, or even years, for warts to develop after infection with HPV. So if you're in a relationship and you get genital warts, it does not necessarily mean your partner has been having sex with other people.

I think it's the statistic that 80% of the population carry the hsv-1 virus. Known as type 1 herpes...more commonly known a coldsores. It can have outbreaks on the mouth or rudey bits.

this info won't change anything anyway. you can pass the virus on using condoms and most people do not get symptoms.

it's not like you will die of them, they just look ugly...google them.
