So let's get the rumour machine going...

Who would you like as the next doctor?

Idris Elba

That was a name that came to mind.

Can we have Christopher Eccleston back again?

He would be great as the next Dr who

Or Christopher Eccleston

No idea why his name came into my head just then

Not been keen on this doctor. So no great loss.

Tom Ellis would be a good replacement. But think he may be too busy with lucifer.

About fucking time too.

Mind you, I suspect that the reason I had a problem with his 'Doctor; was more to do with Stephen Moffat than Peter Capaldi's acting abilities.

I gave it a good try though. Got to about halfway through he second series before I could watch no more.

Mind you, Moffat has also ruined Sherlock.

He seems to start out with good ideas, but then starts experimenting with weird plot directions and such that just make it unwatchable.

As was mentioned above as in "bring him back". He introduced Rose Tyler......he wasn't in the role for long enough...but he was brilliant.

Would like Tom hiddleston but he might be up for bond

If we going for a male Dominic west from the wire would be a brilliant shout

Don't get me wrong would like a woman or a non white male but I can't see that happening with pearl mackie as the companion

I am guessing we will know by the summer or autumn who is

Who ever it is we need to stand with them !

It has to be someone who can play crackers. My two favourite Drs were tom baker and matt Smith. I didnt like tennant all that much, found him a bit dour. although i have to admit he did get some of the best story lines

Maybe robert carlyle begsby as the Dr would be great

I liked peter.

I dont think paul and christopher were given long enough although apparently christopher didnt like it. I liked matt smiths grumpy old man in a young plauful body. He reminded me a bit of tom.

I dont know who i want to replace him. He was a great dr just moffats writing :/

Come back to it in 10 years or so. It's got a bit messy and has been overdone lately with poor writing.

I'd like to see Dr Who given a hiatus from the screen until a fresh team of writers with new ideas and storylines recapture the dynamic created during the Eccleston /Tennant days...

But if they must....

Andrew Scott...

James Nesbitt...

Daniel Rigby...

Would all make terrific Dr's

Some where in West Sussex

Personally this for me is such sad news as I really like Peter C but he has done his time 3 years is the average time for the Doctor.

Don't blame Peter if you didn't like it this time around I won't go into all the why's and where fours how ever someone needs to leave but its not him !

You can suggest all you like but they will probably throw you a curve ball and chose someone you never even thought about lol

Ben Wishall would make a great doctor

Good call with Andrew Scott, but Moffat is calling it a day with this series, so doubt the new head writer will cast him

Richard Ayoade would be a good Doctor I think - he's got that slightly eccentric, odd vibe going on and channeling it into the Doctor would be enjoyable to watch.

...the naughty spot.

The best thing about Christopher Eccleston was that when he was full of fury, as in when he was protective of Rose or the earth, you believed him. Tennant was dour then bonkers. Matt Smith was mostly bonkers...I think Capaldi is boring...I stopped watching....Can't wait to see who is the new Doctor....

Here's some names I think would be ok to play the Doctor from a quirky point of view.

Simon Pegg

Rupert Grint

Rupert Everett

Gregg Davis

Tim Vine

Milton Jones

I dare say non of em would want to do it though.

I'd like a bit of a angry but charming bad-ass, more in the vain of Eccleston than any recent ones.

I'd nominate Iain Glen for that, a bit of a rugged but caring Doctor.

I liked Eccleston and Tennant but Smith was my favourite. Richard Ayoade would be brilliant. I've heard people want Eddie Redmayne.....no. Just no.

I wish Claudia Winkleman was an actor so she could be the new Dr. Tamsin Greig would be good too.

Capaldi really did get the shitty end of it. A brilliant actor and long-time fan of the show, landing the lead role, just as the showrunner loses interest and starts churning out crap scripts because his attention is on Sherlock (which was also sub-par this time around, I might add). Gutted for him. He really should have been fantastic.

They'll no doubt roll out the 'Female Doctor' rumour mill again, as they do every time... However, if that were to actually happen (hey, they did it with The Master becoming 'Missy'), I think Hayley Atwell would be perfect.
