hubby is watching shawshank redemption he says its one of the best prison films ever made due to the fact he is a morgan freeman fan ,my favourite is the green mile cos i have a good cry

my question is what is your favourite prison film and why?

Definitely Shawshenk and The Green Mile, but can't believe that nobody has mentioned King Rat or Papillon. Two great tales centered around incarseration, though King Rat by James Clavall is a far better read than the film.

Like Chezza, we've just realised ourselves how much we like prison films. Have seen every film mentioned on this thread and there isn't a bad one among them.

We'd like to add Bronson to the list and although not technically a prison film, we do have a soft spot for Con Air(Prison Aircraft).
