Hey is there any guys who know about back boilers? My heating system is ancient. I have an old back boiler situated behind an old gas fire which isnt working. The system is that old i have to heat the water by the old switch down system ie water only or water and heating only. I have radiators which work ok but not great. My problem is every few weeks the hot water runs so slow it makes it impossible to take a bath. As the back boiler has no pressure gauge this becomes a nuisence and i have to take showers. Ave bled the system but this doesnt help. What can i do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Get a plumber in would be my advice. A system that old could be clogged up with allsorts and may just need flushing through.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

The 'old gas fire' bit would be the thing that would worry me about fiddling with anything back there. Unless the gas is off at the mains its probably better to get an expert in.

bradford

first question is it a bought or rented place

when did you last get it serviced ?

that type of system still does exists as many still use it as goes for fires on the front they was crap, most never used them

what i will tell you is most plumbers will tell you it needs removing and a new system being fitted

as been suggested it needs a flush out of the system and it wont be a normal job as by sound of it the whole system is failing

every radiator wants removing and flushing as i bet there full of sludge the tank upstairs wont be covered when it should be

also your hot water system wants flushing and your boiler could do with it as it will be sludged up inside of it

the final job is too flush your pipes

its not an easy job also quite messy as well

this is the reason why you have this problem

I have radiators which work ok but not great. My problem is every few weeks the hot water runs so slow it makes it impossible to take a bath.

you can back flow the hot water system but it will block up again in time

if you have both hot water and cold water washer taps you can back flow from them

but will fill your tank in the loft and overflow it
