Depends on the definition of "hook up"?

Socially, no issues.

Sexually might be a different question...

Really safe sex, health, viral load etc might have to be considered before I'd even consider it.

No I wouldn't.....I don't wanna give them my crabs while they're feeling a bit down .

I was reading awhile back that there was a trial being done on a cure because it hides in the eyeballs and such a bit like with the ebola nurse!.... There's nothing like a bit of western medicine when you've got blood coming out your eyeballs.

It's feasible that we do unknowingly - the most infectious period is typically soon after infection - when they'll likely not know. Test results need some time to be able to show an infection.

When someone starts taking anti-hiv meds they won't have immediately the low rates of low viral load that sustained use people have.

All the more reason for the NHS to provide PREP prophylactic treatment for those at risk - like health services in other countries do. The cost of this is small compared to lifetime HIV meds.

If you have sex with others then assume that you're effectively having sex with HIV positive people.

There are a lot of trials underway around the world, looking at various methods to provide more effective treatment than we currently have - including seeking and destruction of the virus where it's effectively hidden from current meds.

My uncle died of AIDS so I'm pretty scared of it so no I wouldn't knowingly sleep with someone who has HIV and I regularly get tested for it, as even though they I practice safe sex it still preys on my mind

Hope this doesn't negatively impact upon the spirits of anyone who's HIV positive.

Whilst it seems that PrEP treatment is making a massive dent in the number of new people being diagnosed with HIV, I hope that more of us become supporters for this treatment to be made more widely available on the NHS. Treatments such as this can help make new HIV infections something of the past.

For a social yes, I imagine at some point in my life I've come into to contact who has HIV just unknowingly. I wouldn't engage in any sexual activity with them though as I'd consider it too high risk, no matter what precautions we took I know I'm too much of a worrier to enjoy the act and the time after I wouldn't relax until I'd had an all clear result from the clinic.

How would you know if anyone you meet has HIV? Is there a law stating they have to declare it? If someone openely states it then my answer would be no... simple reason you feel like you are at risk even if it's very minimal... on the other hand if someone had HIV and you don't know and you're attracted to them then yes.... a lot of people have it and don't know.

I can see wide spread use ofprep leading to an explosion of syphilis/gonorrhoea/chlamydia especially in the gay community tbh.

As people will just bareback as its "safe now".

The London clinics that includes one where the highest rate of hiv infection has been historically tested have a 40% hiv infection rate fall for the last year but no overall increase in other infections. This includes one clinic where some people have take PREP, which seems to account for a massive reduction there in HIV new infection levels. prep is just one of many methods that are typically used and not in isolation. People have similarities whatever their sexualities and it's rare for people to only modify one aspect of their survival strategies.

Only abstinence can give 100% protection. People here writing that they wouldn't have sex with an hiv positive person are ignoring the fact that infection potential is highest when someone is more recently infected - and tests would not reveal someone's infection for a considerable time, meaning that no one could know. Protection that people have used will just give some protection, so that newly infected person could be infecting others.

New Prep trials are planned for the UK, despite it being used in many countries. The closest country where it's available on public health services is France.

It's economically stupid to delay it here as taxpayers will have to pay considerably more for hiv treatment costs for every preventable new infection, compared to what prep would have cost us.

Some of the research is based on analysis of data from 'real world' environments. We can do our own research, including that of London's 2 clinics in 2016, which showed a 40% fall in new infections, which had one clinic with PREP provision. Not all research will cover special testing environments and somewhat artificial conditions.

Now that PREP has been in use publicly in the USA for a few years (other countries too), we can also see how things have changed there. Obviously our populations and environments are different but some conclusions can be drawn.

The UK government has apparently decided to do another multi-year trial here. As the meds already have approval here for other uses, this is also a way to delay treatment more widely, as they didn't want to provide it via the NHS, having stipulated that local non-NHS budgets should cover it. This at a time when the government has cut local budgets.

From that data you can ascertain that people who bareback still bareback.

So hiv will fall but other infections will remain constant.

Prep remains a relative unknown to most people.

Onfe it becomes common and people ewuate it to making you immune to hiv the worry is those who dont bareback currently may now be pursuaded to
