Take zinc at the earliest signs of infection - clinical research evidence shows it's effective at reducing the duration of the cold. Hope you feel better soon op

I'll wipe your nose for you if you rub my chest and back as I have pleurisy.

My mate always tells me to eat kiwi fruit. Not sure if it works, but it's tasty.

There's a link to NHS comment on one of the Zinc meta-analysis studies, reported in the national media, here :

http://www.nhs.uk/news/2012/05may/Pages/Zinc-shortens-common-cold.aspx

(Mods, I believe that the NHS would count as a nationally recognised body issuing news).

Whilst our diets, if balanced, should include sufficient Zinc, I'd think it prudent to take no more than 25Mg of Zinc as a supplement, as soon as your cold symptoms start.

Zinc may also be able to lessen the severity of the cold, as well as shorten it: but I understand that no research shows this yet.

Still continue to take any symptom relief stuff that you favour - though beware of different products each containing some of the same ingredients, pushing you above the safe daily dose limit, such as with paracetamol.
