Irregular periods and The Pill

Hi fabbers,

I am reaching out for some help here.

I suffer with erratic periods, sometimes I am a week late, other times I start early and sometimes I miss a monthly period altogether.

This never really used to be an issue before I started swinging, but now it has become a right royal pain in the ass (as well as the abdomen!...ladies you know what I am talking about.)

SO.... Someone suggested I should look into going on the pill.

I know there are different types of pills available these days, but am a bit wary of taking anything as many years ago I was on the pill and had 2 cases of suspected DVT, which I had to go to hospital for, and was advised to come OFF of the pill, as that could have been the cause.

Do any of you ladies take the pill?

If so which type? And do you have periods any more or does the type of pill you take stop them happening at all?

Ideally it would be fantastic to be free from the worry of trying to plan meets around when I may not be on my period!

This would not be entirely for birth control, as I do play safe!

But double the contraception cant be a bad thing right!

Thanks in advance for your help.

I take the cerazette and still have periods and there not even regular right now but I have only been taking it a couple of months so hoping it settles down, so far so good this month....i find that I'm scared to commit to meets at the min because I don't wanna let somebody down if my period decides to make an appearance that weekend instead we just stick to going to the attic instead

This is the problem I have this week.

Having started my period without any of the usual warning signs this morning has meant I have had to cancel 2 planned meets over the next couple of days

And I had been really looking forward to both of them too!

Now I may be grumpy and frustrated not a good mix.

I am on redigevon (or something like that) and take the pill continually and rarely have periods.

But if you've had dvt then I suspect that you would be advised not to take pill at all.

Have you been checked to make sure nothing else going on. Doesn't sound normal.

Not meeting

My consultant switched me to Prostap injections in September after years of gynae issues. I can now wear white knickers again for the 1st time in years!!!

Please see your GP as there are various reasons for your bleeding & different methods of getting you fixed xxx

Definitely worth having a flick through the nhs website for a bit of research on dvt and the pills that are available but also have a look at depo, coils and implant so you have a rough idea and then book in with gp to chat through your options.

Definitely best to do a bit of research yourself before hand though so you know some of the side effects etc as I know at my Drs you get like 5mins if your lucky and that's not enough time for all the info so better to go in and say I have this problem so I thought it might be a good idea to try xyz and then they will confirm if its a good idea or not. Given your age and previous DVT scare, any doctor should be reluctant to prescribe oral contraception, the Mirena might be a better match for you, initial light bleeding usually settles within 6 months.

Hi, have you considered any other form of contraception? Or is just the pill you want?

It's a minefield out there for woman and contraceptive.. what suits one may not suit another.. us woman may all look the same but our bodies work in different wsys with all those hormones!

I take Cerelle.. it's the mini pill also known as POP pill.

I was taking ordainary contraceptive 20 years ago.. came off and for 10 years suffered such horrendously bad bleeding and pains I was offered a hysterectomy to try and stop it.

Saw a great gyno who recommended this pill.. I call it the miracle pill.. I have not had a period for 3 years.. it has changed my life completly.

It was trial and error in the beginniing trying to find one that suited my body but eventually got this one and have never looked back.

I was told the pop pill carries less risk than those or normal oral contraceptive.

The coil was also suggested.

Best to speak with family planning and perhaps try a few things over a course of months that they recommend until you find one that suits your body.. as said what works for one may not for another.

I have a friend who tried same pill and she had breskthrough bleeding all the time.. totally sympathise with you as it really mucks up the swinging diary and you can never plan.

Hope you get something sortef

I'm on Micronor which is the mini pill - it's the same hormones that are in the implant but you have to take it at the same time every day.

I have PCOS and it was just awful before I went on it, never had an idea when I would start or stop. I would highly recommend it x

Thanks for everyone's comments and input here, much appreciated.

I've done some online research on the POP pill, and that might be something I will discuss with my GP.
