Hey all!

Over the last couple of nights, we have watched a few "scary films"

However, nothing that really makes us jump.. is this a thing of the past or have you got any decent recommendations?

Adam.

P.s- Don't watch the witch.

I've noticed modern 'horror' isn't scary anymore. They follow the same formula, you can tell when the 'jump' moments are coming. It's all a bit predictable.

I'd love to know of some genuinely, jump out of your skin, scary movies.

Sanatorium done my head in a bit, it lingered afterwards and I don't like that as I live alone! It was scary!

It's the paranormal investigators one not the sanitarium films (I haven't seen those)

The witch was seriously crap ha ha. I don't understand how it has done so well on review sites.

It was so odd and not at all scary.

The goat thing was ridiculous, I thought the plot line was all over the place. The acting wasn't any better either.

I love a scary film and yet I hate them too. I'm such a wussy that I find myself being a little scared of the dark afterwards ha ha.

Anything paranormal related has me hiding under the quilt and looking for crazy ass demons on my roof.

I really like Event Horizon. Oh and Babadook is also really good. And I enjoyed Mama as well.

I guess it depends on what sort of horror you're after? More a supernatural element with traditional scare tactics? Thought provoking? Against subtitles?

I love Jeepers Creepers! Scares me so much though.

We go camping alot and we were camped in the countryside one night, sat around the fire. It was so quiet and we were right next to a barley field.

Suddenly lots of birds flew into the air and I imagined him running towards me through the field.

Scary ass guy!!

Alien is a masterpiece compared to Prometheus.

I enjoyed Prometheus but felt it could have been a much better movie than it was. All the elements were there but the story was to drawn out. I wasn't really enamoured with Charlize Theron as the 'lead' either.

Kill List.

And I'll second the shout for 'rec 2' as well. Probably as good as the first film.

'The Devils Backbone' is another good one. Its directed by Guillermo Del Toro who did 'Pans Labyrinth' but it's more overtly horror than the latter.

'It Follows' is a real throwback to late 70's horrors like Halloween. It got great reviews and people said it was very 'jumpy'. I thought it was good but not particularly scary. Very atmospheric and a great soundtrack though. Might be worth a go.

Modern horror movies are not that good really. They seem to have only murderers or demonic spirits as the main antagonist of the films.

Horror movies years ago used to have a fine balance of good characters and plot with some decent scares and gore but now it seems that the good horror movies with that balance are almost rare as most of the modern horror movies today have not much in characters and plot and seem to be more focused on jump scares and gore which just doesn't work

Not really "scary" but The Cabin in the Woods is a fantastic film. Sort of a love-letter to horror and horror tropes by Joss Whedon.

Not to be confused with Cabin Fever (original) which was just odd.

There are very very few horror films that are any good these days.

All mentioned have been boring. Only one recently that has kept my interest is the conjuring 2.

I want to find something that scares/unsettles me. Not yet found it. However I have found 2 that have disturbed me and I had to do turn of and bleach my brain.
