Any fabbers know if its safe to climb this time of year....and can recommend somewhere local to stay? Thank you.

Its safe if you know what you are doing & have the proper equipment & also tell someone the route you intend to take & keep in contact with people, dont try anything to daring, been on various mountain rescues up north of Scotland.

I haven't been up this year yet but it's usually snow/ice covered above 700-800m. I'd recommend crampons on your boots and to carry an ice axe. Useful if you slip over and need some emergency brakes.

If you're not used to hiking on icy mountains, I'd simply say don't. It's asking for trouble, either search and rescue to get you out of trouble. Worst case scenario I'm sure you can figure that one out.
