"Hi, I have the mirena coil and have done for almost 5 years now..it has completely stopped my periods (well I've had 3 in 5 years).....but I know it doesn't stop them for everyone. I personally recommend it but that's not to say it will suit you but I guess there's only one way you'll know X " Same for me, had the mirena coil for 2 years now and only had 1 period. I had it specifically for heavy periods as well and didn't expect it to work as nothing else had. No problems now.

"I know a lot of women who have tried the implant and none recommend it saying things like they didn't stop bleeding :-/ X " My daughter has one and her periods are biblical. I'm on my third coil and, although my periods never stopped, it's great to not have to worry about contraception.

"I hope I'm not sounding dumb... but what happens to the 2 bits of string u use to make sure its still in place??? " They stick out of your cervix so you can tell the coil is still in. I've had men mention it.

"I hope I'm not sounding dumb... but what happens to the 2 bits of string u use to make sure its still in place??? " The threads they use to remove it stay inside you. You don't feel them at all (unless you chose to with your fingers) you don't even know they're there. X

"I hope I'm not sounding dumb... but what happens to the 2 bits of string u use to make sure its still in place??? " They start off quite long to allow for different size cervix's. When fitting they are cut to a length where they hang out of the cervix just a small amount so if you need to you can feel it. Obviously being on here I've met people of varying sizes and never had any complaints or been told they can feel it.

"hi, looking for advice from ladies out there..... I'm a big girl and due to that suffer from pcos, which in turn affects my monthly.... just wondering what ladies advice was for the coil or implant to stop them... I don't want them or need them.. but not sure what route to try first. many thanks in advance " It's PCOS that causes the weight gain, not the other way round. You really need to talk to someone with knowlegede of your medical history.

But you don't get it because you're fat.

"I'm currently on my third implant and will be due to have it renewed next month. It's the best thing I have had, even though when I first had it, it took about six months before my body settled with it and had mini periods every two weeks, but when persevered with, I certainly wouldn't look back, I hope that helps " thanks.... I'm still so confused...im hoping the doc will help me tomorrow

I know it's really difficult, but a change of diet really is the best way to stabilise it. Especially as it's insulin-related. Certain foods like salmon are very good for PCOS. I'd try that before going down the coil route.

It's tough but I'm almost two thirds of the woman I was before.

In June, it will be my tenth year of not eating carbs and besides the side effect of the body you see on my profile, nearly all of my metabolic related issues are gone.
