Big mistake not covering our faces I guess.

If they do send them to your family etc digitally its usually fairly easy for the police to trace especialy if you have a suspect.

Most people are just blowhards though.

But for a plot twist there was no blackmailer it was all set up by the "friends" who told you about it as a way of gaining trust!!

Were they demanding cash? There was an inter_iew with a chap on Radio 4 the other week who had similar threats from another site. The police were also on the inter_iew and they said if people refused to pay mostly these people move on to another potential victim.

Report it to the Police. They may be able to identify the perpetrator from ip records.

Theres dozens of threads started by peole over the years they all get shut by mods without comment.

Fab admin have never given a sensible reason for slapping the url for your profile on pictures though.

If its safety/stopping copying then why not just a large shape/logo/fab?

I had something similar happen to me. A family member had screenshots of my profile and was messaging them around my family

My sister confronted me about it and I just said "yeah, what I do is my own business".

Apparently said family member was going to show my parents so I called their bluff and said show them, but then they'll know that this person has a profile too, and they'll be putting as much "shame" on themselves as they are me

Never heard another word about it after that.

How would they explain their profile anyway? The profile was a womans profile that was created around twenty minutes before I saw it. It was verified too which is odd.

That's awful! This is probably the greatest fear for many on fab.

Someone stole our pics a couple of yrs ago and used them to set up another profile on here. We only found out because fab friends told us but we couldn't see that profile for ourselves let alone report it since they had conveniently blocked us. Luckily our fab friends reported the fakes for us. We've just never uploaded face pics on here ever since.

Although the reason we didn't mind showing our faces is that we would have to blur most of our bodies to remain anonymous as even when we didn't have face pics on, we still had people messaging us that had recognised us from our local area etc.

That sucks but neither have you have broken any laws you over 18 I suppose it won't be good to your family to see pics though but am sure if need be you could explain.

The police won't do anything happend a number of times police just say be more careful that is all its a bit harsh like maybe have face pics as friends only or send that's all I can suggest.

Hope nothing comes off it though hopefully getting complained may stop them.

I've always thought people on here followed a sort of etticut where if you recognise someone it goes no further sometimes I might say hello if I know them well but never would I tell anyone outside! I totally agree with what was said about family not understanding and this is why we only post faceless pics not just that my job is another factor where I wouldn't want to be recognised. The threads get shut down because Admin realised the accounts on that site where letting everyone know they were there so people go look, then they limit who can see the account to only people who will pay. IE a scam, so Admin instructed mods to take the threads off as less people will be duped about it.

They then complained on behalf of the members on here who's pics were used to get the pages shut down.

The most popular photos on this site by miles are explicit ones including faces. Unfortunately they're also the ones that are most likely to be abused, or taken from here and posted elsewhere.

I'd imagine the people who have contacted you are just trolls and don't know you or your family, but if you're shaken up by it why not just keep a low profile for a little while.

On a parallel theme, I was the target victim by a gang of crooks two years ago, who through a similar site, tried to extort a lot of money from me.

From the start, despite the threats to my safety etc., I brought in the authorities.

On Police advice, I changed my phone numbers and built up the defences on my PC, but was also careful about what info I put out publicly.

But one vital comment was made by both the regional Police Fraud team, plus Action Fraud in London who took on the case, that those who attempt to threaten victims with dire consequences etc, don't actually care out their threats.

That's because an electronic trail exists in a small degree right from the start from which authorities can trace the perpetrators. Those involved like to hide behind anonymity and won't come out into the public glare.

Plus the moment you show defiance, dig your heels in and effectively, call their bluff, they won't push their luck and will move on to their next victim.

In my case, just changing my phone numbers did the trick. End of problem!

Spoof it up baby , copy and paste it word for word and add some foolishness for good measure,say some celeb porn pics to add to your verification, who is going to know where the pics originated? Anyone who is directed to this site by someone with a shaming fetish, is likely i should think to be ,well ashamed of themselves. I know i would if it was my family. I know who id hold in higher esteem too, the ones living their lives as opposed to those watching!

Unfortunately there is some scumbags out there that thrive on the thought of ruining or threatening to ruin people's lives, but to protect yourselves against that you must limit yourselves on what you want to show and by plastering your faces pics for all to see you have then opened the door for these folk to strike no matter what way you look at it.

1. Allegedly someone stole op pics and opened a fake account

2. The op decided to do a thead about

3. Some said hide your pics, some said report, some were outraged, how can some one do this to the number one hot photos (facial pic)

You don't need a fab account to read the forums. You don't need a fab account to see profiles (it depends on your privacy settings).

Not to mention that it takes about 2 minutes to create a fake fab account anyway, so many of the "account required" protections are somewhat superfluous.

Anyone with an email address can set up an account. It's best to just assume everything you display can be seen by anyone.

You can read the forums but photos are pixellated. Try clicking on all the links without logging in.

You can set your privacy settings so that your user name doesn't come up in searches too.

It's a free to join site it's a wise move never to put anything on here that you either don't mind being made public or can't plausibly deny.

I don't know what to make of some of the reactions on here.

I have hidden the sexual ones.

I didn't want to hide our face pics as we are easily recognised by our tattoos anyway.

I may just put the in friends to please the folk that are accusing us of lying for some bizarre reason.

I don't require your approval for self worth so I don't give a damn about being in top pics. Sure it was flattering but more trouble than its worth.

Most people will run their profile how they see fit and yet some folk are suggesting I hide face pics and aren't happy that I have yet to do so.

Not that it would hide them from whomever has already copies them like but if it'll make you happy.

Thanks to the folk who offered genuine support, some users have been great!

Support can be offered by replies that aren't just "oh hun that's so bad". I think there's been some useful points to consider about privacy which may also have been useful for people who didn't realise that the forums are public, for example. And it seems a natural reaction for people to wonder why, if you're that bothered, you were still happy to have your faces on page 1 for all to see. That's not being bitchy, it's just that it seems at odds with your first posts about how you were so shaken up. I think maybe I misjudged the thread and it was wanting sympathy rather than advice.

I wasn't aware of top fab pics being on other sites, forums being visible etc. That's genuinely support.

I was shook up to begin with but just because it was a shock. It was bound to be. After the shock wore off I was just angry that someone could be such a dick ha ha.

I'm as honest as they come ha ha. I actually have a fulfilling life outside of fab too so I really couldn't be bothered to make up lies for entertainment ha ha.

If I'm bored, I play board games with our kiddies or go for a family walk etc.

Honestly wish I had never made it to page one.
