The Doric is a fab bar near to Waverley station, and the restaurant upstairs is great! The Whiskey experience on the Royal Mile near to the castle is also a great way to spend an afternoon. My two tips would be pay for the upgraded package which includes some tasters after the tour, and don't go on an empty stomach

That sounds really good!!! Did you stay in a hotel on your trip? Not sure to give Airbnb a try

A world of my own

There are some great bars along Rose Street.

Personally I'd avoid George Street.

Agree with above posters comments about George Street!

The Grassmarket seems to be the most popular place for groups of lads/lasses.....plus it's close to Lothian Road n the pubic triangle if you fancy ogling some strippers

You'd need to be pretty feckin brave to go in there though... we walked past it with a view to going in one of them but just kept walking.

It's been years since I've been in them, last time was after work when I worked at the parliament when it was being built....so however long ago that was!

The ones at the pubic triangle are defo a bit more downmarket n full of guys on their way home from work n old men sitting reading the Daily Record in between perving!

Slightly more upmarket would be the lap dancing type clubs on Lothian Road.

I would imagine anyway,I've not been for aaaaages

And finally if you could recommend a good steak house that would finalise the check sheet

Traffic land

Oh I love Edinburgh, sadly didn't make it up there at all last year, normally visit a couple of times a year.

I love the Miros Cantina Mexican on Rose Street. So many great bars and restaurants, need to book in a return trip!

Was going to suggest the Cafe Royal if you like seafood and oysters. Whistle Binkys bar always seems popular when I've been as well, live cover band. I like going on ghost tours but I'm guessing that's not on your to do list

I've never experienced a ghost tour! We go away once a year with the outlook to do these things but it always just ends up in the pub! We went Cardiff last year and it was brilliant

Depends on your budget. I have stayed in a few hotels and apartments there over the years. Sheraton is nice or the Scotsman but expensive. Angels Share and Caledonian are also good. If there's a few of you an apartment might be a better option.

It more so depends on location to the nightlife so I can follow my breadcrumbs while crawling back to the hotel
