have you ever found, when you are having a chat with some one that they start talking a lot of crap about a subject they know very little about.

Lets take photography as a start - why oh why do folk with a compact do every thing digi cam think they are pro photographers.

a Pro anything does his time as a student then an assistant then as a pro. Yes they are expensive (not as costly as a plumber) but it is not just the pushing of the shutter that they have to deal with its the sorting of any problems that can occur during a shoot.

a good example is weddings, ever seen the wedding photos where the bride or groom has a tree growing out their head.

an amature will turn up and do photos a Pro will check to see what the location is like and will talk with the client to give them what they want and will give the best value in the end.

so it all adds up to when talking to a Pro (anything) just remember we do it for a living and if we were crap we would not have a job. so listen and take advise it might help

ok rant over

i understand your frustration the problem is as you indicate the technology has dropped the price of half decent acquisition.

People can shoot dozens and dozens of shots at no cost and quite by chance get 3 or 4 resonable shots.A six mp slr can be had for less that a couple of hundred quid on ebay and elsewhere and is invariably left on auto.So the shutters whizz away and everyone is a David Baily ..same thing has happend with other forms of media .Including video ,broadcast quality hi def cameras transfering to low cost non-linear post production, Means chuck an off camera mic on top and your away

Yhe problem is no camera so far has a button marked visual literacy.

Lighting, composition, pose all terrible, shadows all over the place.

Perhaps getting a professional in to take some pics would improve the overall profile appearance

hmmmm and some amateurs have real brains they can use and skills they aquire, as well as common sense - and actually produce pictures of good quality and worth exhibiting and selling

...and some pros are pompous, patronising and still take shite photos for all their " professional" status

who defines if you're a professional anyhow - qualification, training, sales ?

lets cut the snobbery and get back to the sex

ooo not sure about that ..paint .net is brilliant if all you want to do is basic retouching bit of layering change the odd colour add txt ..you cant get any better or cheaper software digi editor.

But a trained up p.shop operator will blow it away and dont forget pshop is a small part of the overall suite which is the total media production product in my opinion.

I admit to non professionals its bloatware to some extent, but in the professional post production field its all things to all people ..and yes i use both some things on paint.net are quicker !!

There's a guy I work with who is totally self tought, doesn't go to camera clubs or anything like that, definately doesn't regard himself as professional but you should see some of the pics he takes - they are out of this world, he's sold quite a few for mags, book covers etc etc

Google 'Deljen Photography' and have a look at some of his work - I think you'll find a link to Flikr - where a massive amount of his work is displayed

Just proves that you don't need to be tagged as 'professional' do make a good job of something

exactly my point ... i've only been using a camera for 18 months but i've also had some published and sold , a tiny fraction of the many other rubbish ones i've taken lol ...but i'm really pround of some of the images i've taken and the opportunity to have been involved in an exhibition already.

i'd still call myself an amateur, i still use auto a lot ...i dont care about that --- what i object to is being patronised ( on any topic ! )

as i said - back to the sex hehehe xx
