If anyone thinks that this is the saviour of music, then you need to take a long hard look at yourselves. He's just a an urban Newton Faulkner.

He is to music what Pavarotti was to tightrope walking. Foolhardy and a unmitigated disaster.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

Reasonable voice, don't object. Seems less pre-packaged to me, which would be a positive. That said, anyone with TV advertising for a debut album is blatantly being hyped, presumably he's being lined up as the anti-Adele?

Belton

well I can put my slant on this....I have worked with both Newton & Rag&bone man...

Newton is really nice bloke, talked to new young bands that played earlier in the day before him for hours, had no airs or graces..bbq's a mean chicken too...musically one of the best performances i saw over the weekend and i only really knew the first two or three singles....

Rag & Bone man.....softly spoken, polite..never heard of him before..wasn't going to take too much notice of his set..then I heard him sing...that voice does not fit how he looks but man it was a sweet set...a lot of us techies sat through it...he may not in your opinion OP to be the saviour of British music...

but then again British music is not in decline...there are superb bands and singers out there i can offer you at least a dozen names you should listen to or see live...unfortunately the radio stations plug and repeat and it's usually manufactured or produced so heavily it's lost its original soul...added to that non-talent shows that force feed mediocre acts that are here today gone tomorrow.

Want good new music?.....get out an find your local clubs, open mic nights etc...it's out there believe me!

by the way i saw him over two years ago and am amazed that he is only just being

A great response to my rant. Thank you. i stand by everything I said though, but good to talk about it. If you're ever in Peckham let's go and have a pint and see some live acts.

I quite like him.

I also agree that people should try to support unsigned acts that write their own material.

They usually travel a lot for little payment. In fact hubby tells me that some venues charge them to play

It makes people feel momentarily superior if that counts an achievement. While I in my blissful musical ignorance merely appreciate a good tune when I hear it and don't care if it makes people think I'm a twat.

(I have heard of the artiste mentioned in the OP. But haven't had a chance to listen to it yet and decide for myself whether or not I like it)

Music snobbery as all snobbery is appalling, however music appreciation that is liking music for it being more than background noise to work to is in my view important. Because for many music has the ability to do more than entertain, it can move you emotionally, make you see and understand things you did not before. It can put in words and sounds how you feel. It can deliver a message to your soul or to your community.

However appreciation should not become rude and should be be mixed with humility and appreciation of the skill of crafting a song or lyric or musicianship no matter the style of music. As George Michael said we should listen without prejudice.
