What ones do you still remember? I'm learning new ones all the time and my munchkin loves me singing them too her especially if i add in some actions for her to copy.

I read that parents are no longer singing to their children as its not cool

I don't care if i'm in public or not, if little one gets grizzly a lil rendition of twinkle twinkle always calms her down

still remember loads from my childrens days and working in nurserys for over 10 years.. i think my fave has to be insy winsy spider.. just because of the actions that go with it..

when i left working with children, a % of parents didnt know the most common nusery rhymes so we had started a nursery rhyme club. a new one every week with links to stories, games and learning outcomes like counting, colours etc. and themes in the nursery.

and i was one of those people that is happy to sing nursery rhymes out in public.. lol with my singing voice maybe i shouldn't have but they work a treat ,, and are great to distract a little one from what ever is upsetting them.. the funnier the better.

so please keep doing it.. singing nursery rhymes has been linked to better learning skills , the learning of language, understanding pitch, space, colours, the world around you. so many things.

ok will shut up now,, *walking away singing, 5 little men in a flying saucer*

My daughter always cracked up when I sang nursery rhymes to her because I always changed the words.

Her favourite was always:

Little Miss Muffet

Sat on her tuffet

Eating her curds and whey

Along came a spider

And sat down beside her

So she smashed it's brain's out with her spoon.

~

Or:

Humpy dumpy sat on a wall

Humpy dumpy had a great fall

All the king's horses

And all the king's men

Yelled, "Oh no! Scrambled egg again!"

~

To a 4y/o I guess that seems quite funny.

Now that she's 13 she laughs at my rendition of Abba songs, in particular:

Mamma Mia:

"Yes, I've been brokenhearted

Blue since the day you farted."

~

She giggles her head off at that.
