Is it possible to get your voice back?

Recently ive lost what i call my natural voice due to illness.. its now very slow, hoarse and unrecognisable compared to the bubbly tones it once was.. i can no longer sing (which for me is quite soul destroying really)

Will it return or am i lumbered with what i have now?

Maybe a screaming orgasm could bring it back to its bubbly tone?

i had a voice loss for over 3 weeks last year- total for about a week of it - took a while for it to return to normal but it did - i quite liked the husky tones

Have your vocal chords been damaged? Our voices change as we get older anyway, mine has because I have nodules from singing.

apparently mines changed due to severe hypothyroidism..

its not painfull its just different and 'not me'

It might depend on the illness, some medical conditions can alter the voice irrevocably but I hope its nothing serious and your "normal" voice returns in time. Might be worth checking with your GP?

If your thyroid starts to work properly your voice might change. Have you been told anything about your thyroid getting better?

If your thyroid starts to work properly your voice might change. Have you been told anything about your thyroid getting better?"

i under went some absorption testing at hospital and my blood wasnt reacting as it should to the levels of medication i was given

They think it could be a branding issue and my body will respond to one manufacturer of the medication than another.. so im a guinea pig at the moment lol

i thought 'Thyroxine' was all the same.. apparently its not and companys use different products

If there any nodules on your vocal chords, the first thing is to rest your singing voice completely for 10-12 days.

Nodules are basically like 'corns. and with rest they can regress...you can speak in your normal tome just do not sing

are you now taking medication? maybe when that starts to work your voice will start to return to how it was?

when I was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism it took a while to get the dosage of medicine right, but once it did, most things went back to how they were before, it just takes time

The shape of your vocal chords has changed temporarily due to the hyperthyroidism, that's all. Which means your natural tuning needs adjusting since your muscle memory is adapting to your previous vocal chords. You may also find your voice is more wavery since they'll be vibrating at a different rate. It shouldn't be a permanent change but it will take some getting used to your new vocal range in the meantime. If you don't sing in the meantime you run the risk of the muscles atrophying due to lack of use so please carry on singing. Just change your repertoire temporarily.

More than likely that it is your Hyperthyroidism that has caused the voice problems re loss of range, shaky, wavery voice but I would still get your larynx checked out to make sure there are no nodules present

The endocronologist has evidence to prove that levothyroxine made by one manufacturer absorbs differently compared to another manufacturer..

take scrambled egg for example..

some just whisk eggs and its 'scrambled egg'

some used whisked egg, salt and pepper and a dash of cream.. and its 'scrambled egg'

some just use whisked egg, and milk'.. its scrambled egg

my body is just trialing different 'recipes' of the 'levothyroxine' at the moment and hoping that one brand/manufacturer will be more beneficial to me

Im not a pro singer by any stretch of the imagination but its something ive always loved doing with my daughter at home/in the car/at karaoke nights.. and its just got me down as i cant sustatain notes or reach notes i could. Vocal stamina is like 1/2 a song before im out of breath too

Go for the sexy, breathy jazz standards and play to your currently natural vocal strengths. Proper bluesy stuff?

I had a disease from the bowels of hell that had me off work for 6 weeks and stopped me from speaking. A vocal coach told me to avoid fizzy drinks, spicy food, sip dinks regularly to keep my throat moist and hum up and down the scales - this strengthens the muscles.
