As I am not used to do essay in english I was wondering if, like in my native country, it is recommended to use the personal pronoun 'We' to outline the plan of it ?

For instance: '..., so we will tend to respond to that question by first defining what....then we will... and finaly we... "

Or is it frown upon ?

I'm not sure if it varies from university to university, but all of my essays and reports had to be written in the third person, for example "the student will attempt to prove..."

Might be worth checking with a lecturer?

depends on the question...

if i am asked how i would do something.. i reply 'i would'

if its a general 'what is the process to make a cup of tea' i wouldnt make any reference to myself just list the facts..

Its complicated..

Are we allowed to know the question so we could help more?

Any essays I have wrote tend to be written in the third person too.

I wrote it that way automatically and wasn't pulled on it so I assume it's correct.

I am unsure whether it has to be formatted that way though. Sorry!

I thought that it would have a sort of frame to do an essay but wasn't sure which pronoun to use.

Many thanks, I will send him a email to check with him.

It depends on context, but I lean towards the use of third person in formal writing. What's the context?

Glastonbury

"We" is acceptable.

"I", rarely so.

No don't make it personal and out we or I unless it is a personal reflection.

Even if u carried out the research yourself or whatever you put the researcher of experiementer etc.

Masked and Distant

Depends on subject.

If a Technical course it should be written in the impersonal 3rd person..... "it was determined that. After further research it was found that.... etc"

As an engineer I cant help with the more "artsy fartsy" side sorry

In my research assignment it was 'I or we (the agency) would do x, y and z'. It depends what 'entity' you are addressing the reader as.. or what the assessor requires. E.g. Are you an individual in the first or third person, or a representative of a business, for example?

I'm never allowed to use first person in an essay, in a report I can.
