No not that...

I've been contemplating on getting a new tattoo of a peacock feather for quite some time ...but yet have haven't quite got the gumption to go ahead and do it. I've four very small tattoos and I love ink.

Have you ever just gone and got a tattoo on a whim?

My only concern is it will be fairly large...I'd like it to go on the inside of my forearm and fill it...

Did you regret getting any afterwards?

A world of my own

Yes. The tattoo on my thigh was done on holiday in Turkey. I didn't intend on getting one when I left Edinburgh! However I met the tattooist on the 2nd day. His studio was spotless and he was very artistic. I told him the sort of thing I wanted and he designed it. I went in on my last day. It took 4 hours. I absolutely love it.

The Tantric Tea Shop

Tried a temp henna one in India many years back, a small one on my chest, in the heat I went to wipe my brow and smudged the henna. 10 weeks with a henna smudge tattoo!

No. I have a six month rule. If I still want it in six months time, I'll have it done!

My only 'regret' about my older tattoo is that it's become very blurred and indistinct over the last 20 years and just looks like a stupid blob now (it's supposed to be a lizard). Ideally I'd like it covered up but what I want to do would be more or less a full sleeve and I just can't afford that at the moment.

Co-incidentally I also want to get a peacock feather, or feathers plural, wrapped around my other forearm. I met a woman on holiday a couple of years ago who had the most fantastically intricate and realistic feathers on her arm where every frond was ultra distinct and immediately coveted it ... and spent the next year trying to find an example on the net or in portfolios that lived up to it, to no avail. Went back to the same place last summer and she generously let me photograph and video her arm so I have it as a template to work from when I'm ready.

So yeah ... I'd say go for it, this woman's forearm looked amazing ....

Sorry completely off topic.

I've had the thought of getting it done for almost a year now.

I have been contemplating my first tattoo since I turned 50 and it would either be a peacock or a dragonfly, as both mean something to me personally..

I'm thinking either on my shoulder or the inside of my forearm ..

Whether I will get it done this year remains to be seen...

my advice avoid having a tattoo of a peacock feather as they are considered bad luck images of the birds are considered bad luck that includes images of there feathers.

But that's only what a percentage of people think...

My reason for getting it is because of the colours

No. I'm not a fan of tattoos on old women. I've never felt the urge to have anything etched permanently onto my skin.

Plus, I don't like the pain.

That is of course only if you believe in superstitious claptrap

I to think.they are beautiful birds especially in the flesh having been privileged to have lived with a mated pair as a small boy . But the fact remains images of then are considered bad luck my post was a heads up.nothing more if your fine with the superstition then go ahead me personally would not cross the old beliefs about images of them .

But hay that's just me I am naturally a very lucky person which I personally believe is partly due to me respecting old beliefs because by doing so I harm no one .

There are plenty of contradictory superstitions surrounding all sorts of animals, flowers, birds etc. depending where you live, the religion you follow and so on. Look at black cats for example .... lucky in the UK and Japan, 'unlucky' in the US. Similarly, whilst it's true that various types of bad luck are associated with peacocks, thanks to Google, it's relatively easy to reassure yourself - if concerned - with many peacock related examples of *good* luck and positivity from all over the world.

Whilst it's impossible to wholly protect ourselves from bad luck, a positive attitude goes a long way and how better to feel good about yourself than to acquire a very personal and beautiful piece of artwork which gives you lifelong pleasure each time you look at it? I agree the colours are stunning ....
