Send and forget, if they are interested they will let you know. Focus on writing a good message and profile etc and the rest is out of your control. | |||

"have to admit that I often don't delete a nice or interesting message but wait till I have time to make a note and put them on my hotlist... not going to reply as I don't want to say no but don't want to start chatting either..."  depending on sitting sorting the mail box out. Forums distracts most of the time.
Since a lot of men don't know you can only see so many of the latest incoming messages 75/100 not sure what it is.
You have to delete to bring older messages back onto the page. It also answer why its easier to delete when not interested.
So you never know mail box management could account for it just sitting there but that's my reason may not be other's
