Sexual Health Checks

ALDERSHOT

First of all a Very Happy New Year to all you lovely people. Witn New Year resolutions very much to the fore and thinking about getting healthy and losing weight after our Christmas indulgences, it is important that we do not forget our sexual health as part of the regime. I was talking to my lovely Doctor at the clinic I attend to get an up to date opinion on how often we should get checked. She recommended every 3 months if you are having multiple partners (even if you are practising safe sex). So many people seem to think they are immune these days believing STDs are only caught by the gay community - well I am afraid this is not so. A male hetero sexual acquaintance of mine actually told me he did not need to have checks because he was not gay. Sad but true!! There is nothing better than great sex, and we can all indulge, but let's just make 2017 the year where we think about our sexual health as well as the fitness regime. Take care everyone. Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I need to shag to feel the need to get tested.

When I was active I got tested every 3 months. Unfortunately my local clinic has made it clear that they will be cutting down the types of tests on offer so it looks like I'll just be getting the standard chlamydia/gonorrhoea tests next time I go.

I assume that both I and everyone I sleep with has herpes given the stats on that, and a Ted Ed I watched a little while ago. It really made me think about how often I get tested and the other more nasty diseases out there. Whilst I practise safe sex unless in a relationship, the nature of being kinky and swinging means my risks are higher. So I sit typing with a bruised arm and an all clear message from the NHS. Good post OP, here's to a fun and healthy new year!

The Garden of Eden in Beautiful North Wales

I popped in for the first time a few months ago, concerned about a mark on my willy. I was quite open though very embarrassed but I told them all about my activities and was checked for just about everything, oral, anal and penal, had blood tests and was quite relieved when I was given some creme and the all clear...

Turned out I'd been over doing things manually with my barbed wire mittens!

It opened my eyes, they really are a great bunch of people and I've found the best nurse in the whole of Britain for taking blood. I'm a big chicken and I hate needles, I told the nurse she said, don't worry.... 10 seconds, done. I didn't feel a thing, I even had a look to make sure!

The whole experience has been a very good learning curve and in a way, I'm glad I took things into my own hands... which is quite ironic really cos that's exactly what I'd done! Lol

Get yourself checked regularly. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing.

I'm tested every 3 months because of a sad story of a close female friend.

I don't believe many on the scene get tested enough, very few admit it though.

The clinic near mine decided it wasn't going to test if u had no symptoms etc ... and when I was slightly more active I couldn't deal with not knowing..

Normally I get tested every three months but when I am slightly more active it's more like every month. I just found that I have to lie to the clinic to get tested and I have probably exhausted all excuses. Not that I cared; I got tested and had peace of mind.

ALDERSHOT

It is great to see so many positive posts on this thread. It is particularly gratifying to know that so many of us are well informed about the risks we are exposed to in the wonderful world of sexual contact! When I first started getting tested in my early twenties, you were only tested for a small amount of things, but now it is practically everything. My Doctor at the clinic will even check the testicles for lumps etc in case of cancer, and as someone put on here everyone is very friendly and non judgemental. The clinic I attend has a notice up "Here To Listen Not To Tell". So many people think of the clinics as dirty places, where you have to hide your head in shame when you attend - not so. As my Doctor told me sexual health care is the same as any other form of health care. Thank you everyone for your comments!!

May as well wait another month and get the full test with bloods, would be 6 months since I last had unprotected sex and in my clinic they say 6 months after exposure for HIV and hep b&c blood tests.

But you dont have peace of mind. By reducing the gap so much you've not given time for certain diseases to become detectable

Hence why the clinic doesnt want to test you so frequently as its just pissing money up the wall

I was tested end November and came back all clear. I go every three months to be tested even when I'm not active. It's just routine now. I never go bareback either. But so many people are nieave and ignorant towards std's. They think because they proactive safe sex with a condom you can't catch anything but when you point out there is still a risk of oral they either shocked or just don't believe it

There's plenty of people who say they always get tested and use condoms etc but unfortunately they don't.

There's few people who openly admit to not getting tested and who fuck strangers without protection.

I know of lots peope men and women who frequently have unprotected vaginal and anal sex with strangers off internet sites and in real life meets too.

I know of men who are on here who have anal sex and oral sex with other men but also have profiles on dating sites pretenting to be 100% heterosexual.

This obviously is a massive concern and puts heterosexual people at just as much risk of Aids as people in the Gay community.

The only way to be 100% sure of protecting yourself is to abstain from having sex with people you are not in a monogamous relationship with and even then you both have to be tested appropriately to make sure you are both completely disease free and to only have sex with each other.

Otherwise it really is a game of chance as to when or if you contract a disease.

Sadly some people are under the impression it only happens to other people and will never happen to them?

The choice is yours of course as to what risks you are prepared to take.

I wonder how many partners of "single" fabbers consider themselves std free because they believe they are in a monogamous relationship. There really is no such thing as safe sex

People don't realise how easy it is to catch stds.

Woman gives blow job to man nr 1. Man nr 1 has std.

Woman gives blow job to man nr 2. She just infected man nr 2.

Man has std. Touches his Penis with his hand while putting on condom. Touches woman with his hand. He just infected woman.

Do your homework. Be safe.

We had to stop playing with one of our favourite playmates cos he hooked up with a BB couple several times.... Apparently he could tell she didn't have anything

A lady was on fab for years. She had let's say quiet a few verifications. She went to get checks every 3 months. Every time she went. She was positive for something. Then she had a list to tell. Then the truth came out who was single and who was married. And who had more than 5 partners. We play with fire. And sometimes we get burnt.

Regardless of whether people bareback or play safe I honestly don't understand why people wouldn't get checked. Everything is treatable, but only if you know you've caught it!

Because if they go and get checked every 3 months, then they have to tell their wives and husbands to go get checked also

Last time I was checked for everything and it was all clear, not had time for anything since due to lack of time etc. As things show signs of slacking off a bit and I may have some free time I thought I'd just get checked out, make sure I was starting with a clean sheet so to speak. That when I found out the clinic I had used last time has gone. Looks like to get all the tests covered I now have to choose which direction I go in to the nearest ones, ironically both are about 18 miles but in opposite directions . Well worth the effort though in my opinion. Just seems a shame that they've made getting tested a bit more difficult for those that don't have there own transport.

"London people and those in Telford & Wrekin... you can get a test delivered to your door from SH:24. It comes in 2 days, you take a swab, send blood and get results via text in 72 hours!"

SH24 is covered in our area too. Request the pack it arrives in discreet grey envelope. Do the swabs and bloods and send back and results texted back within a week. So Easy. No excuses not to do it. No embarrassment. No hassle. And you have a text to show you what been checked and to remind you when it was done.

your tests are only valid on the day they were taken, you can leave the clinic , meet somebody that nite get infected, yet you will get a text message from clinic ten days later concerning your tests stating All Clear....

And you will go on your way telling everybody your clean as the clinic said so and end up infecting others...

As said the test is only valid on the day it was taken..

On all the threads it seems folks think as long as they have been tested and had the all clear that its some kind of badge of cleanlyness...

Its not ...

^^^ This!!

In addition, an HIV test only conclusively proves being negative 3 months prior to testing assuming no other risks in the meantime. An HIV test looks for antibodies which can take up to 3 months to appear.

A lot of food for thought here. I certainly agree with you about the amount of men who are on here as heterosexual, and are on other gay/trans sites where they are having both anal and oral sex. Two to my certain knowledge practice unprotected as they have actually told me!

The key thing is to keep yourself safe, and never be persuaded to put yourself at risk. Yes the treatments for STDs are so good these days, but at the end of the day we do not really want to contract one in the first place.

Thank you all for all your ongoing thought provoking comments!

"First of all a Very Happy New Year to all you lovely people. Take care everyone. i am going to be controversial and say I am a little disappoited by the people being significantly over-tested

Ive just read multiple posts saying they go every 3 months wether they have been active or not and a few that said they go every 4 weeks ... at 4 weeks the incubation period for some of the things being tested for isnt even up yet ... and well if your not active I cant quite see the point!

While I am all for being sensible about playing safe and being regularly tested ... In glasgow its so busy that you have to book an appointment around 5-6 weeks in advance unless you have symptoms and get an emergency appointment ... and now I am not surprised since it sounds like half the patients are overusing the service and being a wasteful drain on already over extended nhs resources

If you are all playing as safe as you say (yes i know its not 100% safe its only SAFER but your odds are significantly reduced) then there shouldnt be any reason to go any more often than every 3 months unless you notice something abnormal

Its like saying i brush my teeth twice a day everyday but i had an extra chocolate biscuit so i better go to the dentist tomorrow

we get tested every 4-6 weeks because that's what was recommended by the clinic.. in that space we could have met a lot of people... and even when we have only soft played that still means oral.

Every 3 months would be no good to us as wouls be a lot of people in that space of time.

Just for my results back or being clear do I am happy with that

I get checked when I am active, but I also get cycled when I am not because women are prone to other things going wrong in their pussy, from washing up there when they shouldn't, to a general urine infection, and lucky for me the tests I had were of use and I was not wasting my or the clinics time...

Also for those who don't like going to the clinic there is a website you can order your own chlamydia tests from and do yourself..its all discreet and can be done from home...

Personally im all up for getting checked...the sexual clinic are also specialised in other areas so sometimes they might notice an abnormality or if something hasn't quite right they are great at answering

Also they are aware of swinging and clubs and pretty much all of it so nothing can phase them really

I am shocked by the amount of people who keep referring to playing safe

You are aware you can catch chlamydia from blow job, ur genitals touching someone else's & sex with a condom as well as without

Best be safe than sorry

Thank you for putting this up. So many people are more than happy to discuss sexual preferences prior to a meet, but so many are coy when it comes to discussing being tested. One guy I was chatting to a while ago asked what I was up to one day, and after a bit of back and forth with him pushing to find out what I was up to, I told him that I was off to the clinic to get tested. He seemed quite shocked. I pointed out that I was just doing my usual routine check-up, but from his reaction (and subsequent vanishing act), it was obvious that he thought that I 'had something', which was why I was going. I get tested regularly and find the staff at the clinics very friendly and non-judgemental. We have a laugh and last Christmas I dropped off a tin of Heroes for them, coz I think they do a great job!

I had similar to this too ... just chit chatting with a previous meet one day ... mentioned i was at the clinic for a check up and they freaked out and for weeks kept randomly texting to double check if i had anything (i never) ... from another conversation we had recently it became clear he never goes for regular check ups as his first experience of one recently was the nurses having a giggle at him for nearly being in tears about what turned out to be an ingrown hair ... Hopefully they also gave him a talking to about coming more often

Unfortunately the majority of people who visit the clap clinic do so because they have symptoms of a sexually transmitted disease.

This is what I have been told a by the doctors and nurses at the clinic.

The sad truth is that only a small responsible percentage of people actually attend the clinic for check up purposes only.

People are still under the impression that unless they notice any symptoms that they are disease free ?

So by the time they realise that they have caught a disease or a serious life threatening illness like Aids etc . How many people will they have had had unprotected Oral vaginal and anal sex and infected?

Some people still refuse to believe that serious sexual diseases like Aids always happen to other people and will never happen to them?

Having sex without protection is akin to playing russion roulette.

Its only a matter of time until your luck runs out and you cop for the bullet.

The stupidity of these people beggers belief.

What really pisses me off is men who have unprotected anal sex with other men on sites like this and others but they also have heterosexual profiles on dating sites so putting innocent heterosexual people at high risk too.

In my opinion you really cant be too careful when it comes to protecting yourself when having sex.

Truth is you just do not know someones true sexual history and sexual health!

I always find the clinic vey helpful and non judgemental. So there is no reason for people to avoid going.

I'd say couple of the nurses are mad as hatters but then they have probably seen more dick and fanny than even the most ardent swingers of here.

Great discussion from everyone. I was very interested to read of the two lovely ladies who had men think they had something wrong with them because they were attending a clinic. It just goes to show how so many people do not know about all the work that is done in genito urninary medicine. I thought I would share a comment I heard from a nurse at the clinic once. A man attended because he had a wart on the penis, which the clinic dealt with. When asked if he would like to have tests for possible infections done he replied it was not necessary as he was not gay!! I cannot believe that in the 21st Century there is still such ignorance around!!
