North of England or the UK?

I looked up 'centre of england' from another thread today and it is supposed to be Meriden in Leicerstershire or somewhere near Solihull. So 'North' would be anywhere north of there. But living either side of the line wouldn't make you a northerner or a southerner

"Not Watford Gap, obviously. A line across from The Wash? "

according to people from the south east/southwest and london geographically anywhere north of Birmingham.

I wales the North is anywhere north of Powys. (because they have their own north South divide)

In the north the North starts with their city and anything south of that is the south.

In the actual South that don't care or even know there is a north south divide.

if people are confused about where the North starts, Try living in North Lincolnshire, We are told we are in the Humber area, Humberside does not exist, WE are told that we live in the East Middlands yet we are on the East Coast, Our Post code is in another county 80 miles away, Yorkshire, yet our Capital of our County Lincolnshire is 32 miles away.

Plymouth and Newcastle (sometimes)

"Living in Plymouth there's not much south of us and the locals think anything past Exeter is 'The North'. But being from the Midlands originally, I would say the north begins around Manchester and the south is around Bristol.

Exeter IS 'THE NORTH'..

Soon as i hit the M5 and pass under the bridge and wave goodbye to that lil orange elephant slide thing i start to get a lil bit of anxiety.. "

Haha...That thing has been there for sooo long. When we're coming home from 'Up North' (P is from there) the downhill past the racecourse means we're on the home stretch and even if the car conks out someone would come and get us.

I know... it bugs the hell out of me that so many online places want me to put Humberside in my address. It's not existed for 20 years!

Anyway, I consider myself to be Northern. So I suppose the North is South Yorkshire and up.

South is from wet bit at the bottom up to Northampton.

Midlands Northampton to Derby

North Derby up to The Border

But thats just my opinion."

I kinda agree with the Derby thing - once you go north of there into the Peak District, the landscape changes and becomes more "northern" - dry stone walls, bigger hills, dark satanic mills etc (ok, the last one is an exaggeration, but the buildings and impact on the landscape are still evident.
