Thought would start a new one for this year.

Share your aims, goals for getting fitter or losing weight. Maybe you've already achieved what you want to, so feel free to share how well you've done already. And if you're struggling we can encourage each other too.

I lost a stone from Mid November to December, mostly from being poorly. I've put 3 lbs back on over Christmas and I'm back in the gym on Tuesday. Aiming to lose another two stone this year through high protein still and exercise.

I have many goals for 2017 - but one is to lose a stone and tone up/get fit - and to stay that way!

I'll be starting next Monday when the kids go back to school! Good luck to everyone else with goals for 2017 - whatever they may be!

I lost two stone last year, cut my fat and toned up.

This year u aim to cut my body fat again and then continue to build muscle.

Make more varied workout programmes for myself. Get back to tracking and hitting macros everyday.

Basically get closer to my competing goals.

I have another 4 stone to lose to target for an operation I need. I aim to lose it this year. I finished the year over 6 stone lighter than I started it.. so I know I can do it.

To be fair after the op I intend to put some back on as I will be to slim at that but that's down to personal choice.

I've done a few triathlons (sprint) and my PB is 1 hour 47 minutes. I want to get sub 1 hour 30 this year which sounds like a lot but on average I've knocked 12 minutes off each time I've raced. My running has come on leaps and bounds (pardon the pun) since November and I've knocked 3 minutes off my 5k run time already so. Yeah that's my long rambling fitness aim for 2017

Fitness wise I am already swimming a mile most days... and doing 6aqua classes.. plus walking too and from the pool each time.

I also do weight training 3 times a week but via my physio to strengthen my failing joints

Planning to try the couch to 5k this year if I can get approved by the physio.

I would ideally like to lose 2 stone through healthy eating and starting some kind of exercise regime.

Food-wise I've developed bad habits over the last couple of years as a singleton and I'm a crap cook. Exercise-wise I feel a bit stuck as trapped nerves in my neck can cause pain in my arms if they become aggravated and I also have issues with my knees. Add to that a current lack of motivation and I feel totally fucked - and not in the way I want to be! lol

I have lost 3 stone since this time last year and I am getting fitter, since joining the local health club last June and using the 5:2 diet. So my aim is simply to keep on doing what I am doing, plus doing dry January should help me detox from the Christmas excesses

Double parkrun today which sets the theme for the year. Big target is Snowdonia trail half in July which goes over the mountain as claims to be the toughest marathon in the UK

In the short term I'm rejoining a gym to work on core strength and some interval sessions on the treadmill, partly for Snowdonia and with an interim target of half marathon PB of sub 1.40

I started working out in the gym a couple of months ago and I want to keep that up, I am weight training quite hard so I am not at all bothered about my weight but I want to keep dropping the fat and build muscle. Try and change my eating habits to healthier too that's my biggest downfall!!

Good luck and well done to everyone working to achieve their goals

I am setting myself lots of little goals as the year progresses. 1st is to loose 9kgs by Feb for surgery I need and can't have without the weight loss. I'm thinking slimming worlf although group weight loss terrifies me.

I'm also going back to the gym this week, due to said health issue I can't do any lower body stuff except maybe very light treadmill work to warm up so I'm hitting the upper body weights hard and swimming again at least 3 times a week but realistically know I need to go most days in this 1st month to hit my goal.

Freaking out about it slightly as the choice has been taken out of my hands, but it's nothing I didn't already plan to do post surgery so I'm going to have to suck it up!!

My weight goal will increase with each target I meet, but I think going for small goals and often will help keep me motivated.

Also want to, at the very least, enrol to start my degree at last.

Good luck to everyone with their goals and happy 2017

I'm just coming to the end of what is more than likely my last camp.

Just under two weeks to go now, so it's high intensity cardio and light sparring.

The first thing I'm doing when I land back here....kaspers desert parlour! I'm going to eat my body weight in ice cream.

And then I'll start training for a series of charity runs.

My goals for this year are to continue losing weight and lose 2 more stone. To continue to do my squats to keep my bum nice a firm. To exercise more and burn some excess fat off my stomach and legs. To start lifting to increase my strength

So far last year I'd lost 2 stone and increased what I could lift very slightly so getting there

I've put on about a stone since the end of October, due to being ill and unable to train. Now I'm recovered and with the Christmas and New Year festivities out of the way, the new regime starts tomorrow (it was never going to happen on the 1st. I slept until midday and have been on the sofa ever since). I'll update on here as I go. Please feel free to kick my arse if I don't!

Improve my core strength as it is (and always has been) woeful.

Break 4 hours for a marathon

Over 1,000 miles for the year with 100,000 feet of climbing.

Booked to go to the Alps to cycle some Tour stages ( post Tour de France ).

Already cycle a reasonable amount but need more hill work, obviously!

It's all about individual goals, whether it's losing 6 lbs, 6 stones , a 2K run or a marathon.

Good luck to you all!

New year new start (I say that every year though lol). Managed to lose just over half a stone through running around like a maniac at work in december, but its given me the kick start to keep going.

Time to put my plan into action, not changing my diet too much (just reduce quantity). Im so unfit though, so walking and swimming will be my main things for now with the odd aerobic/zumba workout too.

I like it, its like running a feed trial on yourself. There's lots of help in the forums about setting your calorie quota, although eventually, you ought to discover how many calories you require per day to maintain your weight, and you can adjust accordingly depending on whether you wish to gain or lose. It also means that you can eat food you actually like as long as it is within your calorie "budget" for the day, thus avoiding having to make massive changes, which people often find unsustainable.

"I want muscles "

Eat and lift.

Although, it is important to point out that "defenition" and muscle are not the same - if you want more definition, lift weights at the same time as dieting, to preserve the muscle you have. If you want to gain musce, eat in a surplus and lift weight. You will gain some fat too, but you can cut it off again.

If you are looking to put on muscle mass and are eating to do that, you definitley ought to look at hypertrophy programmes. Progressive overload is always key. I quite like "Shortcut to size" (free on BB.com) when bulking - mostly because its 4 days a week and thats usually all I can manage, I've definitley had good results.

I lost 4 stone last year and would like to lose another 2 before our wedding in April and I'd like to lose another 2 after that ideally. Just back on the healthier diet and more exercise again and I'm sure I'll get to where I want to be. Much happier and healthier already, but still need to lose a lot to be at a 'normal' weight for my height and I'd like to be a size 10/12 before summer.

How long have you been lifting?

It isn't really possible to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, unless you are untrained (a phenomenon called "newbie gains). Untrained means that you haven't been following a programme with progressive overload (Lots of people have been using the gym for years and could still be called "untrained" because they don't follow a proper programme).

However, if you lift (which will preserve the muscle mass you have) and cut weight (weight gain/loss is all down to diet), you will appear more "defined" as you cut fat. So, you could choose - cut for a bit and then bulk to add some muscle or bulk for a while and cut properly later.

If you are going straight to cutting, I'd reccomend you look at strength programmes (maybe 5 x 5 or similar) and build strength whilst you cut (You don't need to add actual muscle tissue to gain strength - usually defined as lifting in about the 1-6 rep range).

I am a shade above 10min mile - it was 3.1km in 20 mins so not that far off but about 30secs at moment per mile

That was only on my second time back this year first goal is 5km sub 30mins - at moment what about 33.20 which isn't great but not bad considering a month off

"I want muscles

Eat and lift.

Although, it is important to point out that "defenition" and muscle are not the same - if you want more definition, lift weights at the same time as dieting, to preserve the muscle you have. If you want to gain musce, eat in a surplus and lift weight. You will gain some fat too, but you can cut it off again.

Thanks for the advice it's a minefield of info isn't it, I lift and hopefully eating to grow in all the right places let's see what happens

Still feel I have fat to lose though?

Want to be strong it's all so confusing I'll have a look at that website thanks

Heard of newbie gains I've been lifting for over a year following programmes, hopefully this will be my year

Plan is to carry on with weight loss I started two years ago and get to a 12 stone target weight from the 16.7 I started at (12.11.6 as of today). Continue to build stamina ready for next year's Everest Base camp trek where hopefully I won't be holding everybody up!

You're getting there. It will come back with a bit more practice.

Trouble I had when I went back to running was that my brain could remember how I used to run but my legs couldn't keep up

"I am setting myself lots of little goals as the year progresses.

Good luck to everyone with their goals and happy 2017 "

I don't normally post progress updates, but I'm super buzzing today, did my first weigh in and heading into the second week almost half a stone lighter!!! I'm so chuffed with myself so I thought I'd share, hope everybody else is keeping motivated and seeing some progress

Oh I really need to lose weight for health but I'm hopeless. Exercise wise everything I do on my own hurts and I can only get help during working hours when I can't get to the gym to get it. Food wise only diet that ever worked for me was a carb free diet shake thing but it was so different to stick to and not sustainable long term - couldn't afford more than 6 weeks. I try but always fail.

Im not great either when it comes to weight loss, i start thrn end up giving up usually, but think its because its done for all the wrong reasons before.

All im doing is decreasing portion sizes and trying to walk more and go swimming when i can. It may not seem a great deal but im guessing every bit helps, will be trying to increase things over time. But one week in and still feeling positive and motivated, and generally happier it seems

Every little bit helps, I have always ended up putting in half hearted attempts but this time I'm doing it for me and my health, having an anaesthetist tell me I can't have an hour long operation because I'm too high a risk was the final straw.

I'm seeing a PT out of normal work hours which is part of an NHS scheme so that I'm exercising sensibly and doing stuff within my physical capability and not aggravating my condition further, and as for diet I've cut out fizzy drinks, which was my biggest downfall, and just watching my fat and calorie intake, it's a little more expensive and takes a lot more planning, but at least I know it is a sustainable change.

Keep at it everyone and good luck

Well mixed results for me so far. I've started eating healthy(ish) and got back into running for my triathlon training. The furthest I've ever run before Christmas was 5k or 3miles but on Sunday I managed a full 10k run with a mate and loved it. Before Christmas I was 14 stone 2 pound. I weighed myself on Boxing Day and I was 14 stone 8 pound. Yesterday I was 14 stone 5 pound so I'm getting there...... slowly.

Get my back back to its proper size, actually get the top half of my pecs to grow for once.

Ideally I'd like to get back to a 44" chest, 30" waist and bit less fat on the belly.

Subsitutions work good rather than just reducing portion size if you have troubble with will power.

Zero noodles/corggete spirals instead of pasta.

And also always making sure a meal is a good mix of fat, carbs and protiens as this slows absorption and smoothes things out for you

I porked out over Christmas so have decided that as well as getting back on the straight and narrow food intake wise and continuing to walk everywhere I possibly can I am dancing and doing various other activities in the privacy of my own front room with a Wii Fit. Warning though: do not attempt the Kriss Kross jump routine on Just Dance 2 when you're wearing a nightie and don't have a bra on.

I'm beginning to think the body fat measuring bit of my scales is faulty. I've lost half a stone so far and my body fat hasn't budged!

2nd: 16st 6.0lb - 26.6% body fat

9th: 16st 2.7lb - 26.6% body fat

16th: 16st 0.7lb - 26.6% body fat

I've dropped to 15st 13lb today. Can you guess my body fat percentage...?

As far as I am aware, those body fat measuring things on scales are pretty unreliable. You might do better with calculations (there used to be some on fat2fit). That said, if you are doing nothing to preserve muscle mass, ie resistance training, then you will lose fat and muscle at a similar rate.

I am doing bodybuilding as hobby and my goal for this year is to get to a lower bodyfat percentage as I will be going to spain more so I need to look my best on the beach. I am following a macro/carb cyckle where each cycle is for 4 weeks

Week 1: Maintenance 3000kcal

Week 2: Super low restricted calorie phase 1900kcal

Week 3 and 4: Bulking, high calories up to 5000kcal

Then repeat it.

I like week 2 which I will start tomorrow as you will deplete your body of carbs, it is glycogen supercompensation for short

Just where I need to be.

Lost 3kg since beginning December which was slow and steady. I'm now concentrating on fitness and toning. Managing to get through 30 mins workout 5 times a week and 2 x7 minute challenge daily. My stamina has increased. I am aiming to walk 15k daily which I achieve and jogging and yoga.I'm in middle of ideal weight and looking at the lower scale I would be far too thin.Fitness is the ultimate goal.

Next steps are to get to under 80k and reduce body fat % a bit.

Hoping to sign up for at least two 10k runs as well

Morning All,

I was going to start eating healthily and doing yoga but it's all gone a bit pear shaped!

Started with sciatica then discovered I have adenomyosis which means I'm likely to need a hysterectomy

Although I've been eating healthily I've not been moving too well due to the sciatica.

I'd like to lose a stone but I may have to wait until I'm fit again xx

My goal is to (hopefully) get down to 100kg.

A total of 7kg loss...

Only 3kg(ish) to go, though, so I'm on course.

Healthier eating, and gym a few times a week. But, I'm guessing building up my muscle impacts weight loss, because it's denser? I don't know.

Feeling tons better about myself anyway, and that's all that matters, right?!

Well done everyone who's bettering themselves as well

I'm doing the Edinburgh Half Marathon in May and at least 2, 100 mile bike ride this year. I'm down from 89kg to 84kg in the last 5 weeks. My aim is to get down to about 70 to 73kg and then start tackling Triathlons.

Hoola hoops are really cheap to buy

Saves going out in the cold to the gym

Another couple of lb down under 19st now. Shirts getting too tight though. Not good when i still have my moobs and gut. 3 half months in and weight loss is starting to level out now. This is the time to start pushing for all them extra reps.4 inches of waist in total now too

Gym at 7.30 this morning. It's definitely helped my bad knee doing lots of squats. Lost another 1lb so over a stone and half now. Going to get my road bike out again when spring arrives.

A massive surprise loss on the scales this week of 6.5 lb meaning a total loss of 31.5 lb in 6 weigh ins (2 stone 3.5 lb)

Ive not eaten the best, ive missed meals, ive been stressed as my daughter was in hospital and ive also got a chest infection. hand on heart expected a gain.

My new mini target is to get my 2.5 stone award next week (My Birthday) :D

I have recently been described as a pot-bellied lamp-post so I've decided to rejig my diet a little and do a little exercise.

No fixed goals, just a general improvement in health, diet and form.

Well done with all the weight loss everyone. Gym done this morning and did dead lifting for the first time, was told it's all about the tits and arse (I thought is this instructor on Fab!)

Really enjoying mixing it up at the gym. Next weigh in next week.
