"It's an expensive business,no legal aid granted and you need a solicitor. I know of several people with 100% genuine reasons who contested wills at great expense and got nowhere. " Thats my biggest fear....there's so much more to the story, but dna would have to be done and thats not gonna be an easy task in itself.

"The beneficiary of a will receives a bequest not an entitlement Shouldn't every father do what they can and whats right for their child ?" I think that's probably a separate issue to your original question. You probably need (for your own sake) to establish that he's definitely your father and take it from there. From experience I would say if you can accept that its likely you'll get nothing you will feel much more at peace.

"The beneficiary of a will receives a bequest not an entitlement Shouldn't every father do what they can and whats right for their child ?" A last will and testament is an enforceable documented instruction of the deceased's intention ......how you decide to respect that intention is entirely up to you..... If you feel strongly I would advice taking legal advice but that will incur costs you can not recover and advice you may not wish to here

" Im kinda in argreement with this. By the sounds of it you dont know this man (ie the Christmas card thing) why would he leave you stacks of cash just because he has it? Go make your own!!! Id much rather my parents pissed anything they have left up the wall and had a great time doing it than leave it for me, they brought me up to sort myself out. Why bother with this man? Hes not worth amother thought in my opinion

"as i said theres so much more to this story but fabs aint the place, its personal and upsetting,if you knew half of what went on during my mums marriage to him you'd understand." And this is exactly why you shouldn't really be seeking such advice on here. Cases live and die on facts, and the type of facts necessary to determine the legal status of a will are not ones that should be shared openly on a swingers site.... If there is a real, identifiable, and convincing legal argument to contest the will, see a lawyer. If this is about personal grievances or just trying to get a piece of a fairly large pie, then I would say to just let it go. It's expensive, it's mentally exhausting, and it's often not worth it.

"Just for everyone who thinks this is about money its not,ive my own house,my own car,my own family and a very good career, ive achieved all this by standing on my own 2 feet, ive never had anything from anybody in life. Like i said it was brought up recently,i was mentioned and i just thought 1 or 2 of you lot might have had some experience or advice. " Wills bring up so many issues and have such significance personally to the people connected with the author of them that the effects are almost secondary in lots of cases. This seems in our experience to be particularly true when step parents or step children are involved. Try to find resolution to the issues that you have if you can so that the will loses its significance for you. Best wishes.

If you need recognition from him now as his son, ask for a DNA. Instead of contesting a will when he's not dead yet, try to connect with him and build a relationship?
