Oh and only in england ? "Glasgow has just awarded a £huge contract to replace their 160 litre wheelybins with 240 litre versions. They insist it's NOT in anticipation of a reduced collection service but I'm not convinced. | |||

"In Hull, we have always kept our weekly collections on general waste. The Food waste bins introduced last year are done weekly too. The Paper/Cans/Glass/Plastic collections started 2 years ago, and have been fortnightly throughout. We get a really good service up here "Hull's a bit of a People's Republic, innit? | |||

It certainly has a lot going for it, despite what you may read in the media! "I think you're right. It does seem to have a lot going for it despite the difficulties many major cities have faced over the last 15-20 years. From what I read the council seems very responsive to the demands of the electorate and I can't help but respect a city which elects a genuine human being, Alan Johnson, as one of its MPs. | |||

Except, Alan Johnson is MP for Hessle which is outside Hull City, so technically he comes under the East Riding. Hull has struggled; no one party can claim to have run the council better or worse than anyone else! But what they put on each year for free public entertainment, even in these austere times, is fabulous. Their public services aren't bad either; I've seen worse elsewhere. And with the 10's of thousands of jobs coming our way over the next 3 years or so with the Wind Farm technology and manufacturing settling here, Hull will become as rich as Aberdeen did when the oil boom hit there. | |||

"Whats so difficult? one for general household rubbish one for paper one for plastic one for glass/metal Sounds like you've even got colour co-ordinated bins, eg. Green for paper, Grey for general household rubbish and so on. You can find info about what goes where and collection days on council websites and most councils send out flyers giving you the info. Whats so difficult?
one for general household rubbish
one for paper
one for plastic
one for glass/metal
Sounds like you've even got colour co-ordinated bins,
eg.
Green for paper,
Grey for general household rubbish
and so on.
You can find info about what goes where and collection days on council websites and most councils send out flyers giving you the info.
If an elderly 84 year old neighbour can get the information then i'm sure you can.
If people spent more time recycling and less time moaning about it they'd have more free time.
