Want to get it to Cheshire from Scotland

I know we can not go all the way by the water but can anyone recommend any one or any help would be a great help

The boat is on the union canal at Rathol

The boat runs and is water worthy

You sure you can't get all the way by water?

There was a TV programme starring Timothy West & Prunela Scales and I thought they managed to do it?

Alternatively, on the back of a lorry.

I think you need to look at the canals of Scotland.

www.scottishcanals.co.uk

No canal links into the other and none go anywhere near England, let alone connect with any English canals.

The Union canal is landlocked.

You either to take it out of the canal and then move it by road to the sea and put it on a ship and then take it to Cheshire by sea; or

Take it by road all the way to Cheshire.

The problem by road is the length. 72 feet is far longer than an articulated lorry trailer, so it will probably be too long for the roads, even if you are granted special permission and need an escort with it.

It will be so expensive to move.

No it's the special offer they have near the tills. This week it was a 72 foot narrowboat.

Soany thongs to consider. Beam of boat versus width of locks; turning circles etc. In theory and notwithstanding the above you could take it out of the water and relaunch at Ripon. I know someone who has a 72 footer and he is more or less lock bound in the London area. Cost him about £12k to move it by road and get it lifted into the water - high reach road cranes etc. Unfortinately I fear it will be difficult and expensive. Good luck.

71 feet 6 inches is the maximum length for most canal locks ..

I hope it's not too long to go through the locks

I bought the boat 4 months ago with the intention of leaving where it is

But now decided to get it closer to home

The boat cost 87k

And had costing of 2 k to lift and move

Was hoping to have FAB adventure sailing it a bit further than the 30 miles on the union

Sadly 72 feet is a little too huge.... You can go most places in a 60 footer.

Blimey!! I think I can probably afford a tent!!

Good luck with moving it... I'm sure someone must be able to help with that, it got to where it is somehow.

Have a look on the Canal Junction website. There are plenty of boat transport companies listed on there.

Ultimately if it does prove too expensive to move put it up for sale through a brokerage. They usually sell fairly easily if fully water worthy. The brokers do all the work. You can then buy one closer to where you are.

Search boat transport companies and for the best prices be flexible with your timescale so that you can have it transported on a return load.

worked for a company that dredged canals and rivers so we moved canal hoppers that were 55 to 60 foot long all the time. Get a transport company with extender trailers (called trombone trailers) they will sort out the relevant movement permits'. The boat would need to be craned out of the water. And back in. Been out of the game for a while now but it was a rough guide that the crane cost was about £10/tonne for the crane. So a 100tonne crane was about £1000 for a lift. Probably be more expensive now. However £12k sounds a rip off.

You paid £87k for one that you need to refit?
