"England have been fined 45,000 Swiss francs for several breaches of Fifa's rules about displaying political symbols, the sport's governing body have confirmed. The national team wore poppies on black armbands during their match with Scotland, despite being warned not to by Fifa, costing the Football Association just over £35,000. Prior to kick-off, both teams participated in a minute's silence and members of the armed forces lay wreaths" FIFA? Ha. Such a wonderful organisation, eh? Carry on with the poppies, please.

"call me a dumb blonde but why poppies,,i mean a daisy print ,,even polka dots would be better " Because poppy's now grow wild in the battlefields, where many men lost their lives during 1st and 2nd world wars. I guess it seemed appropriate to use the poppy as the symbol of rememberence. P

"Rules are rules. Just follow them." kinda agree.. we knew FIFA were against it.. The teams went ahead with their protest and were punished. Part of me just thinks the British Legion could have benefited from that money more and the public would have understood that the players were not going to wear poppies but show respect by making a financial pledge to the RBL instead

"Rules are rules. Just follow them. Even when they are made by corrupt organisations?" Well, if you choose to stay within the organisation's umbrella, then you do need to apply the rules. The rules are applied across the board.

But more to the point, a lot of people gave their lives so as they have a free world in which to play their sport.

"The idea is to keep football apolitical. In any case, we haven't consistently been wearing poppies on our football shirts. Point in case, England vs Scotland at Euro 1996." And what is political about wearing a poppy?

"call me a dumb blonde but why poppies,,i mean a daisy print ,,even polka dots would be better " First of all, I sincerely hope you're a dumb blonde... Otherwise, could call you an ignorant, disrespectful wannabe comedian. Men laid down their lives in terrible conditions and died in massive numbers and poppies grew in the fields they fought in so have been adopted as the symbol of remembrance of those men. Poor, poor show from you

And what is political about wearing a poppy?" This is the important point, otherwise all memorials and commemorations to the war dead are political statements & symbols. Load of bollocks.

Nothing political about it. Just respect. If FIFA, of all bodies, cannot understand that then it is time we rejected them.

And before anyone tries to take the piss, if I was to say she isn't a girl and that she was merely a man pretending to be a girl, everyone would have a fit and tell me I was a terrible person! So no, I will not give her/him a break.
