Ladies, I just wanted to urge you all to take care when you are out this Christmas. Watch your drinks, and only use liscenced minicabs or taxis.

There is a scheme in pubs called Ask for Angela. If you are with a guy, and you don't feel safe, you can ask the bar staff for Angela. This will alert them to the fact you need some help.

Take care, you lovely ladies xxx

Great idea......

In terms of taxis when my daughters were younger we always told them to send a picture of the taxi/reg number before they got in....and make it obvious to driver they had done so. Guaranteed no trouble!

Why not just say I need help ....... cos if I know what Angela means there's a good chance blokes do too.

Whilst I think it's a good idea I feel a bit unsettled about it .......

Too many flaws.

my daughter is only 3, but I pray to god that by the time she goes "out out", she has the confidence to ask for help should she need it.. better still, not get into that situation!

I was once asked for "a goodnight kiss" from a sleazy taxi driver after a night out clubbing when i was 18. Luckily i wasn't blotto and had managed to open the car door quickly and legged it to my house.

I always used to sit in the back seat too, for safety, thankfully.

On nights out everyone should be careful and try and keep their wits about them.

I've been asked that a few times. Even now at 33..

I firmly agree with this topic, the "ask for Angela" idea is very good; as is using only licensed mini-cabs.

I would also recommend that if its a "fab thing" that you find a "wing-person" either through the forums or the like, who know who you are going out with etc. Set a time (a range is best because s specific time can be difficult to stick too) to text them and STICK to it.

As for us gents; I suggest we adopt the "Ask for Joe" code, where if we feel uncomfortable with the lady/couple we are with, we ask the bar staff to contact DiamondJoe and whilst he is

a) throwing up in the plant pots after sniffing the barmaids apron

or

b) Regaling (boring) said couple/female with tales of yore

you can make your escape, on a Ministry of Defence approved pogo stick....

It's time women were encouraged to ask for help in no uncertain terms rather than using coy euphemisms.

Approaching bar staff and saying I'm uncomfortable with my date, please call me a cab, I will stay at the bar until it comes empowers women and sends out the message that it isn't ok to intimidate us. Asking for Angela just makes women look as if they can't ask directly for what they need.

As stated above men are going to know what it means so might as well say it like it is.

Good advice about cabs. I also think both men and women should avoid getting too d*unk it can lead to finding yourself in some difficult situations. I'm not victim blaming there either.

Well, as a publican, We have never heard of this "Angela" thing until now, so if a lady came to the bar and asked us, we (or our staff) would not have a scooby wtf you were on about and would stare blankly at you,

So, before rolling this idea out nationwide, would it be a good idea to let ALL pubs & staff know about it?? or better still, forget "Angela" and just ask for help?? this way you would be more likely to get some help.

some people really overthink situations

Same code word apparently. Just ask for help to save any confusion.

Like GC said above.. id never hesitate to be able to just politely explain a situation if i needed assistance and ask for help.

Ive always had plans in place anyways and informed friends who i'm meeting and where..

If i felt uncomfortable id just tell the person this isnt working and leave, or if i felt the need was that bad to just 'do a runner' id have no issue doing that either..

This scheme was being talked about in the forums over the summer, I had a feeling it was launched in Lincoln / Leicester so might not be rolled out nationally.

Given the high turnover of bar staff and the madness of Christmas season in a busy bar, if you're ever in an uncomfortable position tell the bar staff in no uncertain terms what the problem is.

Have reputable cab companies phone numbers open on your contacts for easy access.

It's good that someone is thinking about how to keep safe. I don't want to knock it but ........ just how 'unbusy' or 'qualified in dealing with dating disasters' ..... are your average bar staff?

If you are in the middle of a pub tell the bloke you are leaving .... call a cab and or the police.

Happy for any georgeous lady to ask for me

But yes, agree with others that if your uncomfortable just be upfront and say so.

Most licensed cab firms now send a text with car and driver info

Just never get into a car that just pulls up and asks if called a cab!
