Euthanasia

Is it erhecical to allow a person with a terminal illness to end their own life. Euthanasia is, as we all know, permitted in some European countries should the same rights be afforded to UK citizens? I am interested to hear view points on this as it has affected a loved one in the past.

I couldn't say with any authority if its right or wrong, but from the outside, it appears that a lot of people are denied their dignity in their final days, weeks, months because it could be abused by people with bad intentions

It's certainly compassionate. We don't allow animals to suffer so why force humans to keep living with pain or no quality of life?

I'm of a mind that says with proper regulation checks and assessment, yes ... no....maybe... I just don't know...

It should be, but the legalities of enshring it wouldn't be taken advantage of would be a nightmare.

I've watched two people suffer at the hands of Cancer, wasting away in agony. Also had to watch my step-dad die by basically drowning in his own fluids. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

To ease the suffering of those in pain, i'd say yes.

This has always been a very interesting topic for debate ...I remember talking about this at schoold...

It's one that (and correct me if I'm wrong) a huge percentage of people will agree with but as the Kinkybutler has said I fear it would only be used and abused in so many cases.

My mum had a dementive condition and I know if someone had offered her a sunny afternoon in her garden with her kids and grand kids then to peacefully check out against threes years of humiliation I know what she would have chosen.

I believe that we should have full ownership of our body and life - what we do with it, put into it, sexually engage freely and decommission from life. It just needs the right legal framework and control mechanisms to prevent abuse from others.

Yes we have more control over a dogs suffering than we do our own
