Just plan for it to be another day... what would you do if it was a Sunday as normal?

Its an awful experience but time resolves everything, it is absolutely heartbreaking seeing families together at xmas, but just being there and always being there, kids notice these things......the deeper the wound, the more the capacity to love

Will just be Ben and I, the first without any of my kids around, they have families of their own. Will see them before and after and speak to them on the day.

Actually looking forward to not having to feed the 5000.

I love my kids and grandkids, they love me, the only days in the year I expect to see them and I do, mothers day and my birthday.

I have today turned down the offer of spending Christmas day with my sister and her family, in favour of having a very quiet day at home with just me and my son...

obviously this means we can eat the food we like and watch what we want on the telly, and more importantly my son can talk as much as he likes without being told to be quiet every five minutes, so he might actually enjoy the day for once

"Is anyone going to spend Xmas day on there own?? "

No, but I first did it when I was 20. I cooked myself all the trimmings and held it together pretty well until Terms Of Endearment came on the telly.

(Though pulling my cracker lost some of the jeopardy )

It got easier.

Big hugs to everyone doing it alone this year

Chams or Socials

My boys are having Christmas lunch with their dad so we're doing the big lunch in Boxing Day instead.

We'll take the pooch for a nice walk then home to eat & drink what we like & watch Christmas films & play a game.

Will be nice not having to run around & keep everyone else happy which usually makes me miserable.

It's Frank's 1st Christmas with us too & he finishes his meds tonight for a few weeks so can have a drink

I lost my mum 2 weeks ago so feel your pain. We put so much pressure on ourselves to make the day special when, in reality, I'd like to go to bed on Christmas Eve and wake up on Boxing Day.

A world of my own

Just me and my boys as it has been for years. Its lovely for the most part. I make sure they have the best day possible. However xmas eve when they are asleep im usually sobbing into the wrapping paper as I do the santa thing. Again xmas night when they go to bed. I've gotten used to it but loneliness never fades. Especially when you can't be with the person you want most.

Well look at it this way at least you can do what you want when you want, watch what you want on the telly. I know someone whos wife always want to visit and invite round her son, wife and grandkids he gets fed up with it so if i got this right he has decided to work instead when they come round and i cant say i blame him.

Why don't you volunteer at a homeless shelter or somewhere else they are providing a place of warmth, comfort, sustenance and a friendly smile to those less fortunate.

You would not be alone and would get an enormous amount of satisfaction from it.
