There is a petition on the UK parliament website to stop gambling advertising on tv & radio. We have no problem with people choosing to do it themselves, choice is fine, but surely it should bot be advertised everywhere & encouraging people to throw money into a bottomless pit.

Please join the protest

What about alcohol advertising? Games and movies choc full of violence?

Do we really need to protect people from themselves all the time?

I'm for banning it as it is now.

It shows it as normal to do all the time, on the bus, all laughing and joking with mates , all actors winning etc.

Actually just ban it. Brings mostly hardship.

most things seem to have a reasonable level of control, but gambling is too prevelant and preying on peoples weaknesses. Really don't see it as the same as alcohol - most people fall iver before they run out of money & yes i get how tough alcoholism is

I don't have a TV so I don't see this side of it. But there does come a point where people have to look after themselves and make their own decisions. In my opinion anyway.

Has smoking decreased since the adverts stopped and the cigarettes went behind closed doors?

online gambling adverts really get on my nerves and as already said they are hugely misleading, so yes I think they should be banned from being advertised but I also think that it is down to the individual and whether they have an addictive personality ..and if so, they really don't need any more encouragement

They make me sad.

I have never understood why gambling companies get away with Advertisung before the watershed. Alcohol etc can only be advertised after 8pm, gambling should be the same seen as you are not even able to step into a bookies until you are 18. Mrs X

I think they need to ban adverts for e-cigarettes, in addition to the huge amount of gambling adverts that are about.

I'm not for a nanny state as I think people should regulate their own behaviour but having it pasted all over all forms of media is too much

Having endured the very worst things possible when someone gets addicted to gambling and into huge debt, is quite happily see advertising for gambling and payday loan sharks consigned to the bin.

I'm watching the cricket now and every other advert is for gambling. It's sold as though sport is pointless without betting. It's sold as a way of life.

Payday loans are now regulated and the amount of adverts has fallen dramatically. Individual responsibility is fine but if advertising didn't alter people's mind they wouldn't spend fortunes doing it.

Also most cricket fans will be fully aware of the damage that (admittedly illegal) betting has done to the sport. If I can't sit here and trust what I am seeing then the game is dead. I would imagine other sports have similar problems.

self control is fine for many, but not a large minority. this is not about the moral majority telling ithers what to do, it is a concern that people are being unduly exploited and seeing every football team and most tv adverts plastered with Gambling ads is pretty tasteless. some will argue that football teams won't have any money without the gambling sponsorship - tough, lets live without footballers on £10m a year each!

Self control is one thing. But the online advertising adverts are incessant, constantly showing regular gambling as part of normal everyday life. That portrayal sinks in for many people.

It also portrays it as a happy, social group activity.

Are there any studies on how many people have their lives ruined by gambling compared to those who gamble for fun and I'm a responsible manner? I can see an argument for something similar to 'drink awareness" but why nan it. The reality is some people have an addictive nature and they will find their addiction regardless of advertising

Anyone saying 'get some self control' is laughably niave as to how addictions take hold. As os anyone who thinks banning advertising will stop addiction

Tobacco, ecigarettes, alcohol and gambling should fall under the same regulatory rules and should be controlled, not necessarily banned, but they should not be pervasive as they are now. advertising & marketing does work, that is why so much money is poured into it by the gambling companies.

For those that are of 'sound mind' and have control over their lives and their finances this is not a problem. Unfortunately there are many who do not, for whatever reason, be it addictive personalities, poverty, unemployment, social deprivation, learning disabilities, poor education, i could go on but the common denominator is their vulnerablility and susceptibilty. These are the people who suffer most.

We have to ask ourselves just how much we need these adverts and is their effect really worth the thrill?
