Cheap christmas cards why bother?

My brother sent us a cheapo crappy xmas card which went sraight in the bin, only his wife is always telling us how well off they are. Me and my son went there once over christmas and they gave us some warmed up Mr. Kipling tarts with cream and while we were eating them they told us that they had bought a load and put them in their freezer as they were past their sell by date and you couldnt tell the difference when you put cream on them, put me right off.

Perhaps they are well off as they look after the pennies. Why send you a card that costs £5 when they know come January it still ends up in the bin.

Not the card that counts but the words inside the card and the thought behind it.

This

I have a big family so I've had to get a pack of 40 from Poundland this year, and I've had to be pretty thrifty with presents though my nearest and dearest have three or four each, and my god daughter has a little stocking as well as presents. But I'd be gutted if someone put something aside I'd put thought and feeling in because it was too 'cheap.'

If a beautiful heartfelt message was written on plain paper then it's the thought behind it.

Cheap or not(and most are grossly overpriced) a card is a sentiment and should be taken as such.

No one knows for sure what people can afford

Reality is often different from the image/words shown to the outside

Throwing away immediately IMHO was disgusting. If you dislike their "ways" to that extent then consider agreeing not to bother giving/recieving either way in future.

Your post just makes it sound like you expect a certain level of money spent on you or in general by them.

Its only a card. An inanimate object that doesn't serve any other purpose than to let you know someones thinking of you.

So regardless of if it cost 10p or £10, its served its purpose.

And it would end up in the bin anyway, so what difference does it make?

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Two of my aunts used to send each the same birthday card, back and forth each year, as a joke based on them usually ending up in the bin. It wasn't an expensive card and the cost of the new envelopes for each sending of the same card probably cost more in the end than getting another card.

OP, do what you want with the cards you receive but don't be surprised if people treat you as not worth more than 'cheap and crappy' if your behaviour indicates you don't value what is important about the card.

Sure any card is waste even expensive ones will end up in bin when Xmas is over. So if you Op would say about all cards I would maybe understand you as not all things is for everyone.. but as you say just cheap ones is crap.. Maybe you should just appreciate that you still have someone who send them whatever cheap or expensive ones..

"And people who saying sending cards is waste.. well for you maybe! But I personally love get card not another msg on phone! I find card more personal then just copy paste msg... "

Sane here. I dislike moon pig cards because they are not hand written but 8 appreciate that someone has thought enough of me to send me a card, regardless of how much it cost them. Focusing on money at anytime is crass.

Take a look at the Bradley Lowery thread.

"If a beautiful heartfelt message was written on plain paper then it's the thought behind it.

Yes but your the one that whinged about the food and chucked the card in the bin... did you at least open it and read it first.. or just shake it to see if any money was in it.

If your brother is considerably better off than you OP, maybe they sent a cheaper card rather than an expensive one so it didn't look like they were rubbing your nose in the fact they have more money?

Just trying to think of your feelings maybe?

Never heard of "it's the thought that counts "

At the end of they day it's just going to end up in the bin !! It doesn't matter what you spend it's the fact you sent one to them, and it's a tradition dying out where people now just send a text or ecard, so just say Thankyou and be pleased you weren't overlooked.

I know they are well off my sister in law tells me, she also said my brother is leaving me money in his will, so why buy cheap cards and cakes past there sell by date. Im baffled. "

Maybe they just do it to you because they know how mercenary and ungrateful you are. If buy you fuck all if you were my relative because based on this thread alone you wouldn't deserve anything.

You don't get to decide what people spend on you you should just be grateful that they do. Perhaps no one taught you this valuable life lesson in your formative years.

And just because he said he's leaving you money doesn't mean it's a lot.

I really don't blame them for sending you a crappy card

The majority of ambient food is good long past it's sell by date if preserved correctly (which is wAs has it had been frozen) so the pie would have done you now harm as long as the cream was fresh.

Bloody ungrateful they didn't have to send a card or feed you when visited

Because that way they'll stay well off, why waste money on someone so seemingly ungrateful?

I wouldnt be ungrateful if they bought me a decent card though. I have bought nice ones for my sister in law before because i know she likes them and she comes over to cut my hair. Nobody actualy really knows me or them on here anyway.

Wtf has cutting your hair got to do with a Xmas card?

I brought my boyfriend £2000 guitar and he got me a £5 teddy. I absolutely love my teddy. Just because you spent so much on them doesn't mean they should spend same on you.

Dump him, bloody cheapskate

Tell me about it how dare he spend so little on something I love and not a fortune on something that would sit gathering dust lol x

Did he get you a shit card though?

Actually didn't get me card and teddy was in a aldi bag not even wrapped up

he even made me breakfast in bed he even used bacon and sausages that we got 3 weeks before n put in freeer...

OMG I'm am in a abusive relationship.... "

No card

"Cheap christmas cards why bother?

My brother sent us a cheapo crappy xmas card which went sraight in the bin, only his wife is always telling us how well off they are. Me and my son went there once over christmas and they gave us some warmed up Mr. Kipling tarts with cream and while we were eating them they told us that they had bought a load and put them in their freezer as they were past their sell by date and you couldnt tell the difference when you put cream on them, put me right off. "

At least it wasn't stinking chicken they had frozen

After read most of the thread, they are leaving you their money, so at least you will get it at the end rather than a more expensive Xmas card

We exchange no gifts, no cards, no fancy meals. We have each other and that's worth more than any tat that can be bought from a shop. We've grown to enjoy the meaningful things. A kind word, a hug, a smile, a kiss, a 4sum with a hot couple

Sorry to sound dumb but the fact someone is thinking of you and sends a card is surely more important than price of the cardboard they send

Unfortunately for some, something can't be of value unless it comes with a decent price tag attached.
