God help me for posting this

Over the last two weeks I have found two strange looking 'things' in the living room, which I put down to coming down the chimney (like mini centipedes) then yesterday when cleaning the cats food area I found more and freaked (all scooped up and squashed and binned) and all I have done since then is bleach bleach and more bleach, some adults have obviously been squashed in the process after standing guard and seeing them coming out of the wood work (under the floor boards) No idea how they got there as I am in a 1st floor flat, what else do you suggest I do, apart from the bleach solution? I am really not a creepy crawly person but with the bleach it is now affecting my breathing and eyes so all suggestions welcome, btw I think I have made it sound worse than it is, but for me...... it is FFS help!

Have you googled them?

They're very probably completely harmless so don't worry too much lol

As to how to get rid, hoover a lot and don't drop crumbs will help

save your lungs and ditch the bleach all it does is give off harmful fumes and does nothing to the insects

They don't like the bleach spray, hence they come crawling out and I can squash them, the maggots are black with yellowish spots, the adults don't live long enough or should I say I don't let them live long enough for me to give an accurate description! But I think they may be (shudder) mini cockroaches but they crunch when squashed (only had one today thank god)So I may now be on top of the situation, fingers crossed

Near Aberystwyth

They might be 'Silverfish'. Do a search and you'll see if it's them and how to get rid of them.

It's probably a lot warmer in your house than outside.

South East Midlands NOT

If it is silverfish they eat all manner of things and can really do some damage.

Call your local council they may be able to give you some pest control advice and may be able to provide a cost effective extermination service (vs a private company)

I had a ladybird problem in my old house. Lots of ladybirds in the opening bits of my windows and once they go into a ball they are tricky to pick out. And let me tell you, a lot of ladybirds gathered together stink! It felt like a scene from The Birds....only with Ladybirds.

They had gone by winter though so probably not that?

Keep an eye on things and maybe get a pest person out if persists.

It might be the person beneath me? I have no idea But for the next couple of days, I will continue with the bleach solution x

if you google 'black and yellow grubs' then look at images you might find out what they are.

so long as they aren't eating your house/furnishings/walls i wouldn't worry too much.

Cannock

You could call in a damp/woodworm company. They can get floorboards up and spray insecticide under all of your floors so that all of your floors/woodwork is treated. Only a couple of floorboards in each room is needed to come up as they have a lance they can spray under the whole floor with. This is a solution to deal with woodworm infestation but the spray is an insecticide so kills most insects. It obviously kills woodworm but I know it kills wasps because had a loft sprayed for woodworm before and there was a wasp nest up there which they also sprayed with the treatment fluid and it killed all the wasps too. After treatment it may smell for a few hours but will soon disappear as the treatment fluid soaks into timbers and dries out naturally.

Hereabouts

Our old flat was on the 6th floor and we had some weird carpet beetle things. We spent about £30 on bug powder and covered the flat in it then went away for 2 weeks. Never saw a bug again. Only once there was a spider in the bath...

Are they hairy? It sound like carpet beetle larvae. Harmless but eats natural fibres.

I'd honestly say that for your health reduce the bleach!

Contact environmental health and get them out.

If you are in flats then there's no point just one person "dealing" with it.. the whole block needs looking at to see what they are and who's affected.

Hugs I know it's horrible but do phone them x

Fuck that!

Get out of there while you still can

Burn the house

Move far far away

Claim any insurance

Stock up on tinned foods

Possibly build underground bug-tight nuclear bomb shelter

Live in fear for the rest of your days

It's what I did!

I have a man in my life and the porch light has been out for a year, bedroom light about four months and the halogen downlights in the kitchen, out of ten, four are working.

I don't trust myself on a step ladder or I'd do it myself!

I don't trust myself either, it's becoming quite hazardous shaving my bits in the shower as the bulb as gone and I'm too scared to risk changing it

Lol simple bulbs I can replace, it's the bloody halogen ones I find tricky, plus putting a stepladder in my actual shower is just a tad too dangerous for me
