Just been on local news. Stoke Hospital have asked people to stay away unless it is absolutely necessary!

Surely that's the point of A and E.....? The clue is in the name.

Apparently they have been so overwhelmed that some waits have been up to 12 hours. People have been turning up with colds, splinters, minor bruises etc. etc.......

Isn't it time these people were told, bluntly to sod off and stop wasting time and costing money. Are so many people really so thick?

.

I know GPs are not easy to see...but many of these things can wait...or actually don't need any treatment, or maybe just a paracetamol or something. Are we turning into a population of wimps?

I heard a quote once which rings true

"a person is smart but people are stupid"

A couple of tears ago one of my local A&Es listed everything that people had attended for in a 24 hour period. The vast majority could have been dealt with by a GP or a pharmacist.

Herts

When I last took our Son to A&E because he was having seizures, we weren't seen for 4 hours!

We were being seen AFTER people with sprained fingers and colds.

I lost my shit that day...

Some injuries can be treated at a pharmacy.

People house a and E as extended gp surgeries. Some will attend days after they hurt themselves which in itself is not an emergency if you put up with it for so long.

Trouble is, in these entitled times, if receptionists and triage nurses were to do their job and turn those who are not truly in need away they would more than likely get assaulted.

our a&e has a shortage of doctors thanks to cuts, so isn't open all the time anyway.

even chemists can be helpful if you want any medical advice.

I don't understand it. Hospitals are the last places in the world I would want to be.
