Anyone applied for a US ESTA recently?

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

I'm off to the US for Christmas and it's been a few years since I last applied for an ESTA, but I've just filled the form in and it said 'immediate authorisation could not be determined, we'll get back to you in 72 hours'.

Can't remember if this happened last time? Never had any problems getting in the US before on the same passport and I've not been in prison to my knowledge!

Already paid for my flights so I'll be livid if I'm not granted entry!

Anyone had the same?

Applied for one for me and my kids earlier this year , was emailed back within minutes saying it was authorised , maybe the system was busy ?

That's not the usual procedure but I do know they take some applications offline to process, some are spot checks others aren't.

I would be surprised if your application doesn't get processed if you've been granted an ESTA in the past, haven't overstayed or obtained a criminal record since!

Yeah I've been to the US loads but I've never overstayed. Maybe I was d*unk at the time! Or maybe Trump has started building a virtual wall!

My son has just applied for one and didnt get an automatic authorisation, I also had the same 3 years ago.

This from the official Gov site:

"You may be told within seconds if your application has been accepted or rejected. Otherwise, you'll be asked to check your application status later, as a decision can take up to 72 hours. An ESTA lasts for two years, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first."

Nothing to worry about, the 72 hours is the maximum.

My guess is you'll get approval before that time limit

Looks like the correct link.

Have you travelled to the USA much? I may get it easy as I have 20 years history of coming and going. I lived over there for a while which did cause issues when I returnef but a few trips back and forth and it was no longer an issue.

If you have never been, or only gone once or twice it could lead them to do more checks rather than instantly approve you.

I think they advise up to a couple of days.

Be wary of only using the USA government site and not a scam though.

"I'm off to the US for Christmas and it's been a few years since I last applied for an ESTA, but I've just filled the form in and it said 'immediate authorisation could not be determined, we'll get back to you in 72 hours'.

Can't remember if this happened last time? Never had any problems getting in the US before on the same passport and I've not been in prison to my knowledge!

Already paid for my flights so I'll be livid if I'm not granted entry!

Anyone had the same?"

When was the last time you was in the US?

Could be wrong but the esta visa is valid for 2yrs from first issue, after that you have to re-apply

"Have a great trip, OP.

"

Make sure you play one of the pianos in the Main Street in Denver, and use the hop on, hop off free bus that goes along that street.

"Applied for one for me and my kids earlier this year , was emailed back within minutes saying it was authorised , maybe the system was busy ?

Shit! Now I'm worried! "

Apart from the fact all the guys I met were hot and had beautiful white teeth(!) the people are so hospitable and friendly; they champion each other (unlike here). The country itself is stunning. So much space too. The food, the country and rock music stations...I could go on!

Can I still come on the 19th if I don't have a husband for you with me? American guys looking for wives are hard to find in York.

I applied for my trip at the end of February. And got the same message. 5 minutes later I had been approved.
