Time alone at Christmas for what ever reason, By choice or other?

I have fallen out with my family years ago for personal reasons so I have no choice and I can't wait for Christmas to be over, anyone else feel the same?

Could you volunteer? Lots of people are on their own over Christmas and they don't want to be. Some community centres put on a lunch and need help with this. There are shelters looking for help too.

Or, you could see if there are other single friends looking to just hang out together.

I tend to spend Christmas alone these days; I buy a nice tree on the eve, climb into the loft for the decorations and make the house christmassy. I do spoil myself a little with nice food and some wine, but try not to drink too much alone (I hear its not a good thing). Depending on the weather I may have a winter walk.....

Do you drive and have a car? Even if you don't want to help out a lunch or shelter volunteer drivers to get people to community lunches are always in short supply.

I'll be mostly alone over Xmas- I'm single without children - and my mum died 2 years ago so I'll be having dinner with my sister and her family and then spending the evening alone.

I'll probably be a bit tipsy and be on fab whilst eating chocolate

I do try to be creative, this is true.... I will end up sobbing though.... this is also true, it will be mad even more sad that some of the glitter from the Christmas decorations will have rubbed off onto my fingers and then onto my face and I will be glittering whilst sobbing , this i believe is the true definition of irony

i spend part of it on my own - kids flit around me - dad and his famly - i work on xmas day also so thats when they tend to pop to his and i pick up on the way home - this will be my first new year on my own (so far) and im not overly bothered - is somewhere id rather be tho

So a donation to a Cpl of homeless charities and foodbanks is how I help others.

What i will do is a shoe box gift again for charity with items inside like toiletries,toy gift,etc for kids who dont have anything

Well Xmas day H is working in the morning do I am dressing as Santa with the kids as elves and we will be popping in to dish out pressies to the seventy odd residents & staff. Hoping for a few kisses under the mistletoe especially from the two faf's from Transylvania 0

Then on boxing day we will be taking H's dad for Xmas dinner in a pub. He is the only parent we have left.

I've spent it on my own for the last few years. The first time was weird but then I thought, I can eat when I want, do what I want and not worry about anyone else and the following years I actually chose to spend it alone.

This year, with my parents getting older, and the thought it could be my dad's last Christmas, I'll probably go to theirs and spend it with them and my brother and his family. Part of me would prefer to spend it alone but I know my mum and dad really want me to go to theirs.

"Time alone at Christmas for what ever reason, By choice or other?

I have fallen out with my family years ago for personal reasons so I have no choice and I can't wait for Christmas to be over, anyone else feel the same?

Christmas is just a nother day wen your on your own this is true but it feels more empty cause you know everyone else are enjoying themselves over Christmas and your not

My advice? Dress the house up; have yourself a nice meal (I prefer pheasant), put up lots of sparkly lights, go for a winter walk; come home, light a few candles; light the fire (if you have one) and sip the most delicious spicy red wine you can afford, or go balls deep and buy a sparkling Shiraz (I kid you not, a sparkling red, its wrong..... but its so fucking right!), make the house smell of tangerines and christmassy things, enjoy it, for the lights, for the smalls and flavours; you are never truly alone if you enjoy all your senses lol I'm glad you can see the bright side to it even though you're alone sounds good

I did write "for the smalls..." though, but hey ho! or ho ho ho? I do like your attitude, Wish it were that easy to think like that over being alone over Christmas.

Chap, I am genuinely sorry that this time of year bites.... but you are letting it bite, now I know nothing about you, whether you have lost loved ones or whether you can't spend christmas with the ones you want too.... but (and I am sorry I tend to sound patronising or like a fortune cookie sometimes), you will be alright, and you know what, it's okay to spoil yourself to your means allowance and as a poster above said, eat a selection box for breakfast or whatever you want.....

Nope, no cat... although the neighbours around here about have cats which I ahem... borrow, look I don't steal peoples cats or encourage them, they just find their way in here, I can't help it....

Life's too short man. Sort it out with some of the family if not all of them. Only here for a short time. Not nice hearing your on your own. That's my advice. Maybe find someone from here even just don't be on your own

I go along with the getting involved with something side of things. I have spent many Christmas' alone for one reason or another and had grown to quite dread this time of year. Although I liked to think I preferred the solitude like I did most other times of year I didn't really cope with it very well which fuelled my dislike for Christmas. If you fear you will be lonely then company of some sort is key, so go volunteer to make somebody else's day that bit better, I can assure you it will make feel a whole lot better about your own day. Good luck.

Well shall I be the first to say to say if there is anyone close to us who will be alone for Xmas and wants company you are more than welcome at ours

I always do a big dinner for some reason even tho there is only two of us

The offer is there but you will have to help with the pots afterwards

I will be on my own this Christmas. I put my tree up, buy myself some presents, get loads of good foods and drink in. Get a new DVD to watch Christmas afternoon.

For me it's Christmas Eve that I struggle with for some reason.

What I've found is if you control the day it's all good just get a few nice bits in to spoil yourself

I'll be on my own for most of the day. Will walk my faithful hound then Horse riding with friends in the morning then no plans at all.

Will no doubt open a very nice bottle of wine at some point.

Tempted to go to Rotherham for the day
