When I started up on my own I soon discovered the job satisfaction of making a difference to people's lives.

Be it giving them back their garden, being a friendly face to call on for those odd jobs around the house or the larger jobs such as roof repairs, patios etc and I have always considered the vast majority as more than just customers.

This morning I pulled up outside my regular Friday morning job - 3 hrs for a partially sighted lady.

Over the past two years I have remodeled her garden, converted her garage to remote opening to give her access to her mobility scooter, improved the side access to make her garden more accessible and there are a number of future projects she has asked for.

When I knocked her door her son answered and told me she passed away on Monday...I didn't comprehend what he meant at first.

This lady offered to lend me the money to buy a van when I set up on my own (I didn't take her very kind offer).

She would always come out with a can of diet at 10:30 and we would set the world to rights for 20 minutes before I carried on for the last hour and a half.

I was shocked.

I talked with her son for a while and then he said "would you come to the funeral? Mum counted you as a close friend and I'm sure would like you to be there".

So bitter sweet - saddened by the loss of such a kind, sweet, funny lady but sweet to hear she thought of me as a close friend.

Just wanted to share my bitter sweet moment with you

What a lovely memory she's given you - that should make you feel proud she thought of you like that.

But yes, bittersweet indeed, to find out like that ....

It does make me proud.

When I set up as a handyman I decided my usp would be the relationships I build with my customers.

It is an honour and a privilege to have been allowed to touch so many lives and make a positive impact.
