Seriously...travel on trains a lot...they are often delayed by a few minutes and sometimes a lot more. ...its so frustrating. ..but why can they never seem to make up a minute or two delay when travelling the length of the country never mind shorter distances...wierd....oh and soooo expensive....grrrrr....

Brighton - even Hove!

Train drivers need a year of training.

They have speed limits to stick to so I guess they can't 'make up time'

In my experience, they sometimes do make up the delay or at least some of it. If they don't, it's usually where they have lots of stops. If they miss their "slot" at a station they have to wait for the next available one...similar to planes. Or they might now be stuck behind another train, and can't just overtake.

They do make some time up but with the freight trains, scheduled stops and other trains a simple couple mins delay can put everyone else out of sync

Newcastle and Gateshead

trains "can" make up a little time.... but that is because they build in a bit of "lay off" time at stopping stations (mainly the big ones!)

otherwise when trains run behind they don't make them up because other trains get "right of way" at signals and junctions to make sure they run on time....

I grew up in a down with a very small station and trains were always cancelled to make up lost time on a delayed train (by omitting a stop from the journey). Very annoying considering they only came every hour.

Trains are wank and the companies need to be held accountable more.
