As the title suggests, I'm driving from London to Edinburgh tomorrow morning, can anybody who has done this trip advise the best route and somewhere decent to take a break?

Cheers

Suffolk - East Anglia

A1 all the way. Many rest stops en route.

"A1 all the way. Many rest stops en route."

Wouldn't drive the A1 for all the tea in China when you have three lanes coming up the west side. I'd rather cross country twice!

If you're not in a hurry, A1 all the way, it's an enjoyable drive as long as you're not an impatient driver.

Solihull

Depends if you want to get there in the quickest way or take the slower but more scenic route

Last time I did it from London it was about 400 miles by going the m40 to birmingham then m6 to Scotland and a74(I think)

M40 works if you're west London if not it's the m1 if you're starting from north London.

When you reach the north either take the Coldstream route of the Jedburgh route..... both options are much nicer drives than the alternative,

All the time in the world, and I think I like the idea of the scenic route. Thanks

Why don't you plan your route based around any places you actually want to see between London and Edinburgh, hadrians wall, York etc

Depends where you are in London, I would use the M11, A14, A1, A66, M6, M74, A702, some good truck stops along this route.
