I have been advise by my dentist to have my wisdom tooth on the right side taken out which in turn mean I should take them all out. I am really proud of growing my wisdom teeth out but one of them is impacted which could cause me losing the tooth in front of my wisdom teeth.

Very likely I will take them out especially the lower right side tooth which isn't causing me any pain but occasionally I might feel a sting if I have a drink and let it sit at the corner.

I will like to hear your experience.

I never grew any wisdom teeth but my partner had awful trouble with his and eventually had them removed. If your dentist has advised you to have them removed I think it would be a good idea to get it done.

My take on anything medically related is that if it's not broken, don't fix it. He gets paid to whip those buggers out.

2 of mine had to be removed because they were affecting the other teeth, one they can't reach easily so they've decided to leave it in until it causes problems.

so you don't need them removing i suppose but if you want to keep other teeth then you often have to have them taken out.

I don't need to have them all taken out but the dentist mention in time if I have the bottom out gravity will pull the top once downward and the is no base. can't remember exactly what she said.

I only have three (one never grew in). I never had any of them out, though one is oddly shaped so they sealed parts of it. I never had problems with them.

If your dentist says one needs to come out then have it out...but I'm not sure why the others would have to go. As I said, I have one where there is no matching one below it and I've never had an issue.

Normally they are teeth you don't need. Had mine taken out in dentist chair. He gave me a valium injection and when I roused, he said he had to keep stopping as I was giggling so much!

I had my bottom two taken out just before my 21st both were impacted had to go into hospital for that.

And my top left one last year removed at the dentist, amazed how big the root was

But not really sure why they decided to leave in my top right one

at least I want loose all my wisdom

Do not get them done at a dentist.

Ask to be referred to dental hospital.

Much less risk.

I was getting serious pain from my top right one, had it removed at the dentist and it was worth it. I'd happily have my bottom left removed as it's been trying to come through for 6 years and is stuck, but the dentist just fobs me off, I believe bottoms ones are more complicated to remove, but it must be cheaper to remove it than keep prescribing antibiotics.

I'm not sure what's to be proud of though, they're just teeth

It's painful when they become impacted and infected. You get tooth ache and ear ache.

I had my top two out in my twenties when they came through and caused pain (tooth and ear ache) and they were pushing my other teeth out of shape.

The bottom two haven't come through but my x-rays show they are sitting in there and if they ever decide to appear will probably grow the wrong way.

I'm over 50 now so I don't think they're coming. No wisdom for me.

My small mouth meant I couldn't brush mine properly, so I had one out and then three out together, at the dentist, with just the numbing injections. The crunch sound when the dentist gripped them was a bit sickening, but they were all out in 10 minutes.

Female has had all hers removed. 2 top ones grew in at funny angles- removed at dentist, lower right was removed at dental hospital as it was going to break the tooth in front of it and lower left removed at dentist. Lower left was worst removal and took over an hour and 2 dentists to remove. It then developed dry socket and needed antibiotics.

My bottom 2 are severely impacted and will be removed in a few weeks under general anaesthetic in hospital, they have said they will need to remove part of my jaw bone to remove the tooth

I get severe pain and migraines when they decide to move!

Can't wait to have them out but not looking forward to the op and recovery time

I had all mine out as they were facing sideways and causing epic pain and trouble with my jaw crunching and grinding.

The pain afterwards for a week/ 10 days was just about bearable. I had minimal swelling and no bruising at all, and the jaw pain and grinding was instantly gone.

I had two removed as there wasn't enough room for them to grow properly, not sure if this is what impacted means?? My dentist removed them really quick no discomfort just a pulling sensation. Was ready to hit the shops straight after and don't recall much pain afterwards. I do know there are some unscrupulous dentists from experience but if they are causing you problems I'd follow his advice.

I had my first one out in September. First tooth ever. But after injection felt no pain at all

Had all mine taken out and never had a problem. Swill regularly with salty boiled (but cooled) water and take paracetamol and Bob's your uncle. Your face swells a bit, you get a bit of blood on your pillow, but that's normal.

My dentist said at the moment it doesn't need to come out, But she is keeping a eye on it as at some stage it will have to be removed

I had two of my wisdom teeth removed it was so bad i refused to go back and have the other two out so what they did was remove my upper and lower back molar to make room for the wisdom teeth to come through which wad loads better and when they came through properly there wasnt even a gap

Bottem one came through fine. Snapped top right one so had it removed. Im in on thursday to have top left removed as it has grown at the side of my molar and pushing it out of position. Also just snapped one of my molar yesterday so seein if they can sort that at same time

I had two out spread over several years but the other two will stay in as they're not any problem now nor will be in the future.

I did have a dentist that said of wisdom teeth, "one out, all out" but since then, dentists have dismissed that theory.

I had 3 of mine taken out in hospital when I was younger, as I hadn't got room for them to come through. First time I've been accused of having a small mouth. Was relatively painless process as I was put under, but did take a few days to get over it and I looked like I'd been beaten up for a week or so after.

Had top n bottom removed both sides were all cutting into roots of teeth next to them,never felt anything after op,but day after face was like done ten rounds with Tyson,n covered in bruises so I'm guessing they put up a fight,glad it was general anasyhetic,25 years ago no issue since

I had 4 wisdom teeth taken out in one go, I had to be very careful with what i was eating for a while. Just over two weeks after having them out i bit on a soft bread roll and my jaw broke where they had been removed from.... Not nice

I had all 4 of them removed at the same time, I was put out with gas. When I came round the nurse asked me if I'd had a nice dream. I told her I dreamt of the 3 bears.....at 21!!!! How embarrassing

I was warned that I would be really bruised the day after because the dentist had to but a knee on my chest to pull them out. He wasn't wrong but I'd been in agony for ages so it was worth it

One of my Mums didn't come through until she was in her late 40's/early 50's!!

One top one of mine is gone, am having the bottom two removed under general in a couple of weeks time as they are both growing sideways and severely impacting both back teeth

I am confused, how was having your moral removed any less painful than having the wisdom tooth removed? Also I am *very* surprised your dentist would choose to ditch molars (were these healthy teeth?) and keep the wisdoms, as the latter tend to be only partially formed and often of inferior quality. Teeth are so strange!

This is about your chewing surface. Teeth need their corresponding pair (up/down) to function. So the dentist goes, a tooth that won't chew, is not for show and may potentially cause problems - I might as well remove while in the process of removing its pair. It's s preventive measure - just like the routine removal of all four wisdoms teeth before there is a complain or at the first sign of complain that many people on this thread have had.

My dentist went the complete opposite route. I had all four wisdom teeth by mid 20s but one was rotten. Instead of removing he decided to... root canal it

Every dentist that sees this is perplexed to say the least - as I mentioned above these teeth do not have standard physiology so to map the nerves was a challenge.

Painful to say the least, painkillers not working so having to contact GP today for something stronger.

If you can live with them until they are causing issues then I would advise leaving them alone!

Weird, this thread always reopen when I need it, had my taken out on tuesday only the right side wisdom tooth and 2nd molar my tongue feels weird was advise to take painkillers after and salt water after brushing for a week. I Would have had them taken out earlier but was late for appointment

Well...am now 4 weeks post op and pain has subsided thankfully but still have a numb bottom lip and can't feel the middle section of my bottom teeth.

Having to brush my teeth after every meal and salt rinse....which food is still of a soft variety as can't chew due to the fact I still have 2 gaping holes in my mouth!

Am gagging for a pizza or steak or some decent pork crackling rather than just soft foods
