"No, but I know a girl who was at school and is now reasonably well known as a writer kept yearly diaries. I suspect she still does. I think it was a habit and s form of therapy. I'm not even good at shopping lists me. Although, ironically, I'm a good writer. " Ahhh, I kind of get that - I'm into creative writing myself and it does keep me in the habit. And it helps to get feelings onto paper for me

"I have boxes of notebooks going back to my childhood. I stopped for several years and now only write every once in a while, in the hope that living in the moment means I no longer *need* to record it all. " I know what you mean about living in the moment though I do tend to look back to remember anniversaries of certain events

"i used to keep diaries when i was of a younger age ..... 14-18 interesting reads they are now " God, I'd cringe. Mine were mainly about teen crushes

"Yes I do and always have either paper or lately on my lap top. I go for periods of time when I dont though. Its a habit that's encouraged if you write but Alan Bennet recently confessed that although he kept journals until the 90s he had rarely if ever used them as inspiration for his writing. I keep diary journals and ideas for writing journals. " I don't really use mine as inspiration, I tend to just pour inspiration into poetry instead but those poems tend to end up in my normal journal if that makes sense?

"I have a journal that I've had since I was in college. I only write in it once or twice a year, except for one year when I wrote in it quite a bit. Reading it makes me cry. " With happiness or sadness?

I sometimes see a person who catches my eye and just jot a quick description down or hear someone say something and make a note. These things come in handy for me to kick start a short story or character.

With happiness or sadness?" Saddness. I have a few happy events written in it, but the sad things stick out more when I read it back. I'm glad I have it, though. It gives me perspective.

" I have a similar notebook too Though, this -https://allpoetry.com/A_girl_who_reads - is poetry I wrote a few years ago and it comes off as a bit of a journal.

I see what you mean. I tend to look at hard times, and think well if I got through such and such I can get through anything
