Investigatory powers bill

Milton Keynes

As of 25/11/2016 the government passed the "investigatory powers" bill (or, "snoopers charter") now any goverment agency - from the police to the fucking food standards authority to the British Transport Police to GCHQ to the fucking retards over at the Gambling Comission - can look at ANY part of your internet history at ANY time for ANY reason, without requiring a warrant or ANYTHING.

in the UK, "innocent until proven guilty" no longer exists, just like in Nazi Germany and Stalin's soviet USSR, the police (or even the fucking food standards agency) can just walk in and look at your shit whenever they like, for no reason, with no warrant. You cannot appeal, you cannot complain.

I reccomend to everyone reading this that you learn how to use VPNs and TOR and protect your internet browsing, because EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU EVER COME ON ANY SITE LIKE THIS WILL BE ON RECORD FROM TODAY ONWARDS, FOREVER, or until we get the law overturned.

I for one don't fancy being blackmailed by theresa may's nazi governmentor anyone connected to them because i'm a bit kinky and proud of it, and neither should you. It. Will. Happen. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

....obviously in a metaphorical sense.

You want everyone from your childs local education authority to the actual secret service looking up your internet history whenever they like without a warrant without any indication you've committed any crime?

Off the grid

Still giggling at the "fucking food standards agency" comment in the OP.

If they change from the FSA to the FFSA, we'll know who started it.

Already got my VPN set up.

You are all poking fun now. Maybe the govt. aren't building it for corrupt power but the data they are storing has massive potential for abuse.

How many times have you seen a hack in the news recently because organisations can't keep their data safe.

Often.

Not just your internet history - a record of your phone logs, messages to whom and when.

If you haven't watched the third episode of the new black mirror series I suggest you do. At the least it's a great show.

Surely they can't do it without valid cause to? Besides logging on here isn't against the law so don't sweat it.

As mentioned above, it is not just the (insanely long) list of govt bodies with access, but the sheer inevitability that soon everyone will have access to it. It will be an extremely valuable source of data for identity theft so will be targeted very heavily.

The one silver lining is as if yet the govt haven't actually defined how the data will be stored and so the ISPs actually can't start collecting it yet.

Manchester

A few years ago an Act of Parliament called RIPA was passed. It was supposedly designed to help the security services spy on potential terrorists.

The first time most people heard about it was when the newspapers revealed that local councils were using this law to spy on people to check if they lived on the street they claimed in order to send their kids to a local school.

Those people were horrified they had been spied on but I bet most would have said " if you've got nothing to hide you needn't worry" before they knew.
