Manchester

A terrorist is convicted of murdering an MP. The first time in more than a quarter century this has happened.

The nation's newspapers rightly put this story on the front page or page 2.

.

I hate the Daily mail but am struggling with this, Was just in a local supermarket, hardly any papers are leading with it and The Mail article is a double page spread.

Tha Mail is a vile hate filled rag, there is plenty to attack ot for but is anyone really surprised that this story is not prominent?

As I said, they probably had a rush on about cancer scares and immigrants. Perfectly understandable.

Only the FT and Mail went with just the budget, all the other's gave at least a mention and some the full front page to Jo Cox.

Yes, but that's just the front page. ALL other papers gave the story in full by pp2/3.

The Mail left it to p.19, as we've established, undoubtedly for perfectly sound editorial reasons.

The newspapers are a dying entity. Within 10 years none will exist anymore.

I used to think that they provided a valuable service but now they are becoming obsolete and pointless in a world where news and analysis are instantaneous.

And as they become less relevant, the views in them become more extreme partly because they can't afford the best reporters and partly by trying to pull in punters with shock headlines.

So where do people get their news?

At least with papers there is an editorial process, even if there is a political bias. And there is also an investigative imperative.

I fear for a future where people sit at their computers listening only to the news they want to hear and drowning out anything that clashes with their narrow conception of the world.

But that's what people do. You only need to look at some of the Brexit threads. For the most part people were very binary and only listened to the views/news that backed up their choice.

They now have that choice even more as they can pick and choose the new feeds they see.

People still give a shit about the fucking daily mail?????

I've been refusing to click on any link that goes to their click bait troll-site for at least three years, but it is slightly scary how many "have you seen this story " posts on forums generally are supported by a link to mailonline.

I can only conclude that people shouldn't be allowed freedom of expression on the Internet , although that is admittedly quite a daily mail attitude.

"Mainstream media and politicians are a part of the same cess pit. They don't hold each other to account, they just argue about who's turn it us to rule the plebs.

^ this is part of the problem.

We are in 'post-truth' politics - no-one trusts or wants to listen to anything that doesn't conform to their own narrow view.

It's sad

I'm not having that!

Fisticuffs in the Politics Lounge?

Shit I thought this was the lounge? How the fook did I stray so far over that side?? I'm lost now (walks back to my normal place)"

Shhh!

Historically, the Mail has been rather fond of the extreme right. This has not changed one iota.

* Battle of the booty! Kim Kardashian and sister Khloe roll around in dirt for Yeezy fashion shoot helmed by Kanye West

* TOWIE's Megan McKenna flashes her cleavage in a sultry keyhole cutout dress for beauty awards bash

* Kate Wright cuts a very busty figure in low-cut burgundy dress as she joins glamorous TOWIE girls including Danielle Armstrong at ITV Gala

Newspaper used to wrap food was banned as the print was toxic- I think that's a more apt indication of the British press and much of its media

I have this dream that one day you'll get the sound of Big Ben bonging and then "It's 6 o'clock and this is the news"

Followed by someone just screaming for a full 30 minutes.
