It exists, subconsciously a lot of people still do. Interesting documentary on bbc3 a while ago, I'll try and find its title.

I got called racist at work the other day because a lady was served gravy in a cup she didn't like.

Errrrrrr what?

Then she preceeded to say people were looking at her funny, so I told her it's more to do with they're quite shocked at her reaction and attitude towards them over a cup which can easily be changed for her no problem.

Then I got.."oh it's my attitude? It's clearly a black and white issue. I'm black, you're white"

Once again...errrrr what?

Of course it exists across all races and colours, probably since caveman days, and it's never going away.

It's on YouTube: "Is Britain racist?" Top hit is a 48minute BBC documentary exploring the topic.

This is an interesting topic, being mixed race myself I've definitely seen both sides. Sometimes it's down to ignorance and not understanding the unknown, sometimes it down to down right biggotry...

Also it isn't something that is reserved for white people, I know many racist blacks & asians in certain cases they're worse. I think the term racist is banded around too easily.

There's a difference to ignorance and down right racism.

Why can't we accept each other's differences and embrace them as something to celebrate instead of causing division?

Why would it? I don't get it.

I could be blinkered but I've never not spoken to someone because of their skin colour and as far as I know, nobody has not spoken to me because of mine. And if they haven't, I've not noticed, because it's absolutely the farthest thing from my mind.

"We a are all the same and we all came from afrika."

We are not all the same, we are different. Societies challenge is to help everyone to respect and hopefully embrace those differences.

Racism is just one of the many 'isms. They all exist in all societies, we've still got a long journey when it comes to human evolution. The UK has its problems but does much better than most.

That is right, but we all originated from the same area as human beings, then went separate ways in the world.

I abhor racists, awful people.

However it's a pity the word is thrown about and used far too loosely in situations that aint really racist against people or masses who aint racist.

The net effect of that is many are that tired of it's use and shut off to it. Cry wolf style. So when true racism occurs it can go un-noticed or ignored and the real racists are having a field day.

Well done the media and they yawny pc brigade

That's correct primarily were all the same except for some minor features and skin tone differences that come from evolution of habitat change!.

Personally I think we confuse race with culture far too often, cultural practises divide us far more because it's range is very different.....judging is not the same as pre judging

In my opinion and experience

There is a lot of hidden rascism within each race

Far and above all else

But the term race is odd !!

We are a only different due to the circumstances of our environment and the migration of out forbearer

Colour of skin is due to exposure to sun and Mother Nature acclimatising your body to cope

As with most of our features that makes. Is look and act different

No it doesn't, bad cultural practises come from bad ideas ingrained into people over long periods, physical differences make me difference whatsoever except to relate to those bad cultural practises....

In these enlightened times of

Globalisation,multiculturism,

And Cosmopolitanism

Racism has no place, the racist has no place.

Racism itself is complete lunacy,

only practiced by the mentally deranged.

Especially when xenophobia gives you so much more scope in which to practice your, ignorant, insidious, impartial,

intolerance.

So where Racism restricts

Xenophobia will open up a whole new world

"Do racism at work count never seen white person in Indian Chinese or Bangladeshi restaurants working or dont that count"

Im not sure if it has changed or not but I believe there is a clause in law that states an employer can employ a particular race (and I'll use race as that is what the law classes as a protected characteristic, not culture etc) if it is required to give the company an authentic look. Therefore Indian restaurants can legally employ only Indian people if they wish.

Might be bollocks so I'm off to Google.... Of course I won't be as quick as the forum research and humiliation team

A lot of Indian/Pakistani restaurants actually use eastern European chefs due to immigration issues employing Indian /Pakistani people, basically, not being able to get the chefs visas. I listened to a very interesting program on Radio 4 about this.

Talked with a stranger recently and when he found out that I was originally from a particular country he wanted to know if I was proud of who I am. I knew what he was getting at. I said that of course I was proud of who I was and proud to be called "x". The past atrocities of my country does not affect me as the person I am. I proudly tell people who I am and I'll gladly talk and ask questions about my country. But don't look at me and make accusations at me because the colour of my skin. "I(male) have been called a racist, then I told them ok, but I should just tell you my sister in law is mixed race, my niece is mixed race and my brother is Muslim so yep I must be racist

Just because you know people who are of a different race doesn't mean you sant be racist lol

Also.... Muslim is not a race. "

These days people sometimes feel the need to state they have a black friend or an Indian relative to say they are not racist due to the word racist being used so easily.
