Feeling sorry for myself

I'm just so bored since being out of work. It's been two weeks and I don't feel like myself anymore. My work was a big deal to me. I never even complained on Monday mornings!

It sounds so dramatic but it feels like a grief.

I'm sat in a cafe feeling the same.

It's so hard and it can get debilitating - I feel guilty and cut adrift from life.

Please do look after yourself - it's all to easy to get into a right fog in this situation. Walks, exercise, meditation etc - anything that keeps things together.

Take good care.

Sorry to hear that - you know what? It probably is grief. You have lost a big chunk of your life.

Hopefully time will be a great healer - with luck you will eventually find alternative employment, in the meantime it's easy for me to say but try and fill your days with interesting things.

Are there any clubs / societies nearby?

Charity work? Something to keep you busy and, most importantly, something that will give you some social interaction.

Good luck OP - things WILL get better x

Big hugs. Your life has change radically and it will take a bit of time. Grief is a good way to describe what you are going through.

its not dramatic darling at all . in your position I would be feeling exactly the same.

in fact the only time I've ever been depressed was when I was laid low for a long time long story and I could not go out and do my work . it really got to me not having work to keep me to a routine . that's the thing about work we all moan about it but I love the routine it gives to my life as it gives me a reason to get up and structure to my life .

here have a manly hug from me because you really are a absolute darling xxx

River, it's not dramatic and I know exactly how you are feeling. Since being made redundant and sending out cv after cv after cv and seemingly banging my head against a brick wall I lost all sense of worth and self. I have always been proud of my work and pretty much that is how I judge and quantify myself. Currently I feel worthless and, if it wasn't for some very special people in my life, I would be struggling to even get up in the morning.

I wish every piece of luck to you and cross everything that you'll be back in the saddle very soon.

People so quick to slag off the unemployed would do well to understand just how unpleasant and demeaning unemployment can be.

It doesn't sound dramatic. You can grieve for a loss and a loss of a job is a loss.

Try to stay busy. If you need suggestions, I'm sure we can come up with some ideas.

I hope you feel better soon.

I've been saying this a lot lately because I went through something similar. If you define yourself by the things that you are then if that changes it can have a huge impact on your sense of self. Remind yourself of your achievements and what makes you 'you'. Exercise helps and try to keep a positive outlook.

I feel for you

I hope you find a new job soon, if you can't then a short stint in voluntary work will lift your spirits....

Thank you so much for your replies. They made me a little emotional. I've taken on board the comments and tomorrow is another day. Your support is much appreciated.

Let's get back to the important subjects like who we'd fuck and what we're having for tea/dinner.

xxxxxxxx

How about doing some voluntary work in a local charity shop or something while you look for a new job? At least that would give you an answer to the boredom and keep you busy while making you feel better?

Hope you find something soon.
