I've just left a comment on somebody's thread about football being yawn worthy and I figured that might have been a bit opinionated of me..so..I've come to ask what it is that makes the sport so popular. what is it that attracts people in droves to watch it?

Is it the technical skill of the players. Is it an interest on how your town produces good players? is it the atmosphere or sense of being one of many fans? A sense of belonging to something bigger?

its something I've never truly 'gotten' so help me understand what it is that makes the sport so damped popular

When I was a kid , well seven years old actually , my old man said to me one evening - " come on son , get your coat on we're going out " . This was odd as he never really took me out , especially in the evening , but off we went . The traffic was chaotic , and I had no idea where we were going . Anyway we ended up at Wembley and there were thousands of people cramming the streets . It was Man.Utd vs Benfuca , European cup final and we watched it . My first ever game , and what a treat !

United won in extra time , the greatest childhood memory I have .

I've followed them ever since , through thick and thin . Never really wondered why , just love the game , the players , everything about it really .

ok, so a bit of a family connection..an interest passed down as it were. I'm missing that with football..did loads of stuff with my old man but footy was never one of those things.

starting younger too I guess helps get that passion in your blood. not sure but I think i might be 'past it' by now
