"LCU which is renowned for it's journalism school, has banned The Sun, The Mail and The Express from it's campus as part of it's "Anti-fascist" initiative. Isn't it amusing how these "Anti-fascist" lefties are becoming increasingly fascist? They'll be burning books and art next. People gave their lives for democracy and freedom of speech and these people are trying to take it away from us (and slowly but surely succeeding) " Great to see free speech being allowed to whither 100 years after the end of the battle of the somme when thousands died fighting for our right to speak out. If they believe the newspapers concerned spout such rubbish why are they worried ?

It would be interesting to see how they correlate fascism with these newspaper. Maybe we should go one step further and stop all government funding to this organisation

" It would be interesting to see how they correlate fascism with these newspaper. Maybe we should go one step further and stop all government funding to this organisation " Well, they have changed the definition of 'fascism' to 'anybody who's political opinions differ from ours', which ironically, is very fascist of them. They try to have what they don't like to hear censored, try to have democratic votes overturned, riot when they don't get their own way, openly state that they want white heterosexual men removed from power, campaign to have their ideologies taught to children and now ban certain types of mainstream media. Apart from the Nazis being far better organised, more intelligent and more equipt to achieve their goals, in the way they went about things, they are indistinguishable from the modern-day leftist.

"And let's get the facts right.....London City University didn't ban any newspapers, students who attend the university proposed a motion and it was passed, it has no power other than to highlight the displeasure many young people have for Xenaphobic and Racial inspired stories in many British tabloids. In the same way that people who wanted out of the EU had their chance to express that belief, these students (less than 200 at the meeting) expressed their beliefs in the form of an AGM motion and show of hands.....hardly a ban at all. Especially as the Univerity itself has stated that all British and Leading European and US newspapers will continue to be made available within the University shops. A storm in a teacup, but perfect fodder for idiots to take seriously...." It would however be interesting to know if any of those voting actually read the newspapers concerned and on what basis they came to their conclusion . I would suspect that most of those voting do not read the publications concerned and would not have any idea of the editorial content on which they cast their vote .

"Apart from the Nazis being far better organised, more intelligent and more equipt to achieve their goals, in the way they went about things, they are indistinguishable from the modern-day leftist." Let us not forget that the NAZIs were only better equipped due to plundering the wealth of their opponents and those they saw as their enemy. They were only in power for 12 years, yet their legacy remains as divisive as it ever was. As for the newspaper element of this discussion, I'm keeping schtum...

A storm in a teacup, but perfect fodder for idiots to take seriously.... It would however be interesting to know if any of those voting actually read the newspapers concerned and on what basis they came to their conclusion . I would suspect that most of those voting do not read the publications concerned and would not have any idea of the editorial content on which they cast their vote . "200 out of 17,000 students voted. Hardly a seething mass of outrage, just a typical clique of student "activism" BTW if you look at the composition of the student union committee it's virtually all male and half the roles have no incumbent." That's even worse though, no? That 200 can speak for the 17,000 and tarnish the public image of the school? The three papers questioned employ graduates from said school, I can't see that continuing... All because of a whiney, shouty, far-left minority. I don't know what the gender of the voting members has to do with anything. I never suggested they were mainly women (or foreign , which is why I found it odd that people kept responding with "foreigners fought in the war") I was just pointing out the irony of them behaving in an entirely fascist way, in the name of Anti-fascism.

People gave their lives for democracy and freedom of speech and these people are trying to take it away from us (and slowly but surely succeeding) how are they going to take away anyone's right to freedom of speech, students getting political well there's a thing.. making a spurious point about people giving their lives in relation to this is strange.. maybe these students have recognised very worrying similarities in the sometimes racist rhetoric, the vilification and intolerance of minorities and disabled people etc in certain media outlets to what was being said in pre war Germany about those same groups..? and it was during that war against fascism that many brave people of all colours, nationalities and religions gave their lives.. You've said absolutely nothing there, other than you support the censorship/banning of media that "offends" you. I'll say something then.....my grandfather fought alongside men of all colours and religions in WW2 in the Far East, it was only due to the selfless Sikh's who BROKE INTO prison camps at night to smuggle in food and quinine that kept many British and Australian troops alive long enough to be liberated. So spare me your 'People who died for us' rhetoric...."

"Why all the mentions of people of "other colours" fighting for us in the war? What has it got to do with newspapers being banned or free speech being breached? " My father and hundreds of other 'coloured men and women' came over from the Carribean to fight for this country in the 2nd World War. They were RAF support. Their contribution appears to have been forgotten, so I take issue with rags like the sun etc who make a point of espousing xenophobic and racist crap to make murdoch etc more money. You forget that freedom of speech and democracy equates to the freedom to vote and ban as well as to write and promote racist viewd!

Again, I don't see the how people from different backgrounds fighting for us in the war relates to the topic in anyway, I never mentioned anybody's race in the OP. The view seems to have been taken that I'm racist, because I acknowledge freedom of press in a democracy.

"The three papers questioned employ graduates from said school, I can't see that continuing... All because of a whiney, shouty, far-left minority. " Maybe it will encourage students to work harder and maybe get a job at a decent publication. Regardless of political agenda the standard of writing and what passes for journalism in those 3 papers is shockingly poor. Although, less flippantly do you know roughly how many staff at those papers are LCU graduates? Or have any evidence that this will stop current students working there in the future?
