I had one installed on my laptop ages ago but uninstalled and deleted it to try and speed up my laptop but I need it again. Can't remember what if was called though, need to cut the length of an mp3 file so it will fit on a 79 minute cd. (It's a 2hr 09m set that I want to split across 2 CDs)

If you actually know the name of one that you use could you write the name of it. The ones that are coming up on google are dodgy sites so don't post links just say the name of one that actually works.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

Audacity is a well known one.

I use Goldwave, but might have paid to unlock all the features on that one.

You can even do it in QuickTime, which you may already have installed. Chop, save as, undo, chop the other half, save as. Then open the chopped versions and just export them as audio files.

West Wales and Cardiff

I use Audacity - it's free, well-known and easy to use.

Another vote for Audacity here.

Very easy to use and has some great features for a free programme.

From memory I think you have to download a separate add on to save files as Mp3's, but it isn't a problem.

How does it work then this audacity thing. I've imported the mp3 file, there's a little button at the top with a squiggle on it that says trim audio but fuck all is happening when I'm moving the mouse over the section I'm trying to trim.

Highlight the portion of the track you want to keep. Make sure the track isn't playing or paused - you have to click on the yellow 'stop' button near the top left.

If you click on the squiggle symbol, it should trim the audio. Anything outside of your highlighted area should be removed.

Hope that works

It was having to press the stop button that was throwing me! All done now!
